COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Was first produced as "Kasteel Winter" but then rebranded to "Barista Chocolate Quad". The name ‘Barista’ conjures thoughts of the fragrance of steaming coffee below a layer of expertly created froth. This may sounds rather far-fetched for a beer... However, the aromas and the flavours of caramel, cacao and roast malt match seamlessly with the ‘black gold’ and chocolate. This beer builds bridges with the world of hot beverages, with warming alcohol in the finish. One to enjoy all the year round: with a meal, in front of an open fire or on an outdoor terrace.

12oz bottle of Barista Chocolate Quad. Pours a dark brown color without much head. Mild spice and some unsweetened chocolate at the end. Mild sweetness. The Chocolate and spice balance well.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, beige head, with slight lacing, over a clear reddish (SRM 22) body......nose is cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, marsh mellow, slight caramel, light dried fruit tones, no hops......taste is moderately sweet, with heavy chocolate, cocoa, marsh mellow, vanilla, mild dried fruit with plum, raisin tones, hints of cinnamon, finishing almost dry with minimal hop tones......mouth feel, medium body, moderate alcohol heat, low carbonation. This is a very dessert oriented beer, It is super sweet, chocolate dominated, with multiple other candy, sweet tones. BJCP 8/3/14/5/7

I thought the ratings would be higher on average for this. Finding this to be near top 20 for me. Maybe I just love chocolate, as this reminded me kind of like a chocolate egg cream. Quite drinkable for this high of ABV, yet it’s hard to hide the bite @ 11%. Has a thick and creamy texture, but a little thinner than I expected. Flavors of heavy chocolate, coffee, toffee, mild fruits...but mostly chocolate. I’ve seen this around on draft, so will probably look towards that for my next sample.

Aromas of chocolate tootsie roll, dates, nutmeg and cinnamon, light star anise, and crusted bread. Taste is cocoa, tootsie roll, dried dates, charred malts, light star anise, light nutmeg and cinnamon, crusted bread, and Belgian yeast. Very unique.

Draft to taster at HopCat in Broad Ripple. Looks solid; a fairly transparent browmish bronzr wiyh foamy very light caramel head. Smells malty with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, cinnamon, and clove. Mouthfeel is full-bodied, slightly bitter, and pleasantly warming. An enjoyable sipper, and a good cold weather brew.
