An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

330ml 2012 - cellared for 4 years. Served at room temperature. Pours a dark murky brown. Head is small, very lightly tanned and mostly lasting. Aroma is sweet and complex; amontillado sherry, date loaf, muscatels, caramelized banana’s, Belgian candy sugar, juniper berries, cloves, star anise and nutmeg. Flavour sweet and complex with a very light herbaceous hop bitterness; barley bread, spiced fruit mince, brandied pears, cooked brown sugar, juniper berries, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and notes of herbs and oak in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation, a thick texture and a very long warming finish. At 4 years old this shows absolutely no signs what-so-ever of deteriorating!

Aroma is boozy, caramel, wood, dry, spice, toffee, goodish. Appearance is dark brown, light tan head, hazy. Taste is fruity, dark fruit, dry, wood, caramel, butterscotch, spices, nice. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, dry woody caramel aftertaste. Overall, the booze is well-hidden, and while it isn’t as complex as others, still quite nice.

Taps dark chocolate brown with a thick, fine-bubbled and persistent tan head. Aroma grabs the nose with chocolate, roast malt, molasses and coffee tones. Flavor delights with mocha, roast malt, molasses, and subtle woody hop tones. Smooth mouthfeel offers good body and fizz. Worth ordering for the presentation, and a great brew in itself!

Ottima strong ale, bel colore scuro impenetrabile, schiuma molto sottile. Aroma piacevole di frutta, dark fruits e buona nota etilica. Al palato ottima, rotonda, malto e tostatura lieve. Carbonazione poco invadente.

Bottle in London - picked up in Belgium. Vintage 2011. Pours mostly clear brown with a thin, bubbly tan head. The nose has toffee, ripe berries, cherry, figs. Medium to big sweet flavour with tasty berries, brown bread, light yeast, dates, caramel. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly gooey, somewhat warming, with more toffee, ripe fruits, berries especially, more dates and figs. Good stuff. Has aged well.
