A great beer that does indeed taste like aged Donker. Smooth and delicious, only thing lacking is the aroma. Maybe I can’t smell because I started smoking cigarettes again, but I’ve been getting metallic smells from lots of beers that taste amazing. This is one of those. Sugar and dark fruit upon tasting; blackberry and grape with a spicy, but easy finish. Thick slightly oily mouth-feel. Delicious, would definitely try it again.
Draft to taster at HopCat in Broad Ripple. Looks solid; a fairly transparent copperish brown with very light caramel head that slowly but steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty and mildly tart with notes of dark fruit and Belgian yeast. Mouthfeel is medium full-bodied and pleasant. An enjoyable sipper. Vells (1846) - Rīga, LATVIA - JUL 10, 2017
Regardless description, I dont find it too complex.. or royal. Anyways, decent Belgian strong with pleasant maltiness, quite high carbo, some dried fruits, light chocolate, bit wood.
Moderate to light sweetness, light bitterness, hint of sourness. Decent. vsyrbu (141) - MOLDOVA - JUL 3, 2017
In the aroma coffee and cherry in chocolate. The taste is good for coffee and alcohol. Dry aftertaste with warming alcohol. loscovar (352) - Villeneuvette, FRANCE - JUL 2, 2017
bottle. It looks like a kasteel donker for grown ups. The sweetness it’s taken away by the years, it’s more complex, more achieved. Wonderful colui72 (1029) - HONG KONG - JUL 1, 2017
Pours obsidian black, with a medium beige head, little lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, ripe fruits and molasses. Tastes sweet, rich and boozy. Very fruity, sweet malts and molasses, candy and floral notes. Beautiful. Full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, long finish. An excellent Belgian classic.

Tap- good size foamy head, murky dark brown color (in a good way), pretty complex aroma and flavor with strong malt, dark fruits, booze, mildly spicy finish, very good overall

11.2-ounce bottle pours dark brown; nearly opaque. There’s a very small tan creamy head that quickly dissipates, leaving behind some lacing. Aroma: prunes, raisins, red grapes. Flavor: all of the above, just ramped up, with some molasses, figs, dates, and brown bread. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, rich. An excellent Belgian sipper. Draft - Vintage 2014 - Prune and raisin, with dark fruit. Jet black with a decent beige head. Dark prune and raisin with a nice long finish.
