3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Enjoyed from a 750ml champagne-style bottle in a stemless wine glass. The beer pours a medium to nearly deep brown, with a low light tan head. The nose shows fairly rich aromas of molasses and raisin. An underlying yeast note comes through, reminiscent of Duvel’s strain, as does an interesting subtle lactic note. The palate shows assertive carbonation up front, before more molasses/toffee, assertive bitterness (perhaps from the alcohol?), and a note of alcohol toward the finish. Again, underlying yeast notes come through, adding an almost cooling tropical fruit ester toward the finish of the beer. The finish lingers for a moment, showing slight alcohol and residual sweetness. Overall, a strong dark that moves away from the norm with underlying lactic character, but in a way that shows complexity, finesse, and restraint, rather than a simple desire for uniqueness for the sake of itself.
Donkerbruin kasteelbier. kandijsuiker, eerder zoet, maar toch een bittere afdronk. komt aan als afsluiter van een proefavond :-)

330ml bottle. Murky, dark brown colour with small to average, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sugary sweet-ish, dark malty, slightly fruity and alcoholic aroma, notes of toffee, caramel, mandarine, orange, Cointreau, an artificial touch of cherry. Taste is sweet dark malty, fruity hoppy, notes of apple, baked apple, banana, orange, mandarine, dark chocolate, hints of toffee; sweet-ish, lasting, minimally sticky and slightly warming, alcoholic finish. Rather easy drinkable despite the alcoholic finish. ciocanelu (2601) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - AUG 8, 2017
Clear dark brown color with red hues, tan head. Aroma has mostly brown sugar and toasted malts with some booze soaked fruits on top. Taste focuses mostly on the brown sugar and yeast character. Finish is a bit astringent and bitter. Medium body and carbonation. It’s an intense beer but this also comes with some alcohol burn. Nordcore (1532) - Lyngen alps, NORWAY - AUG 7, 2017

Dark amber color with small fast fading brown head. Dried fruits, brown sugar and malt. Sweet taste. Powerful, warming and sharp aftertaste. Can’t mask this 11% alc content. erling1000 (744) - - JUL 26, 2017

Very dark with a medium head. Aroma: Dark chocolate, coffee, malt, brown suger. The taste is dominered by the roastyness without being burned or bitter. Very nice balance. Alcohol present but In a pleasent way. Only wish it would have been a bit more powerful In taste and texture.

Draft to taster at HopCat in Broad Ripple. Looks solid; a fairly transparent copperish brown with very light caramel head that slowly but steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty and mildly tart with notes of dark fruit and Belgian yeast. Mouthfeel is medium full-bodied and pleasant. An enjoyable sipper. Vells (1857) - Rīga, LATVIA - JUL 10, 2017
Regardless description, I dont find it too complex.. or royal. Anyways, decent Belgian strong with pleasant maltiness, quite high carbo, some dried fruits, light chocolate, bit wood.
Moderate to light sweetness, light bitterness, hint of sourness. Decent.
