3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle (2012).
Unclear deep dark brown with a medium sized beige head, which leaves a thin film behind.
Dried fruity aroma ruled by raisin and plum escorted by citrusses, caramel, chocolate and alcohol. Syrupy, slick texture.
Long and tart finish with dark chocolate, spices and liqueur.
Fine as expected.

11.2-ounce bottle pours dark brown; nearly opaque. There’s a very small tan creamy head that quickly dissipates, leaving behind some lacing. Aroma: prunes, raisins, red grapes. Flavor: all of the above, just ramped up, with some molasses, figs, dates, and brown bread. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, rich. An excellent Belgian sipper.

On tap. Light brown. Sweet malty aroma. Not my favorite. Abrasive alcohol, sweet and slightly medicinal. These are one of the only kinds of belgian ales that I have a hard time getting into. Too brown sugar and alcohol forward for me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown. Doesn’t pour with much head. The aroma is plummy, raisiny, vinous...brown sugar and date molasses. Deep, fruity...so much dark fruit and sugar. Touch of alcohol in the finish, but smooth and well-balanced.

Nothing much to say here. A belgian brune strong ale, a little on the sweet side, not getting an awful lot of cuvee here.

330ml bottles pours very dark brown with modest light tan head. Aromas of caramel malt, dried fruit and spice. Dark, heavy and layered flavours of liquorice, brown sugar, pear, herbal and spice characters and alcohol. There is a reason for the black label. This is a strong, full-bodied Belgian beer with a medium bitter finish.
