COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12C (54F) (Translation by Martinus)

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a small light brown creamy head that disappeared very quickly and had fair lacing. The aroma was of nutty malts with notes of brown sugar, raisons, dried fruit and a horseblanket yeast scent. It tasted sweet, rich and malty at the start but matured into a nice sweet-sour yeasty flavor. Mouthfeel was medium in body and nice and creamy in texture. Overall a very interesting brew, one definitely worth trying again.

Aroma: Strong caramel and subtle alcohol notes Appearance: Dark brown color with hazy liquid and tan brown head. Taste: Heavy sweetness and light sour notes Palate: Full body with oily liquid and average carbonation. Long sweet astringent finish, alcohol touch. Overall: Beer to have with heavy meals. Recommended for winter and to drink slowly.

Bottle, 0.33l. Deep amber pour, cloudy. One finger off-white head with very good retention. Lasting thin layer. Thick lacing. Nose is heavy malt, yeast, slight alcohol. Touch of roastiness. Medium body with quite aggressive carbonation. Thick and oily on the tongue. Taste is..... excessively sweet. Strikes as a sugar bomb! Aroma of heavy malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Syrupy. Molasses. A bit sticky. Poor job on hiding the high ABV despite all the sweetness. Boozy. Lots of aocohol. Nicely warming, perhaps not so nicely balanced but! - sill nice nonetheless. Interesting aftertaste, a touch of citrus to it. Somewhat woody. Dry finish. Overall, quite interesting. And if you can tolerate the sweetness - quite tasty. Pretty good drink to enjoy on cold winter evenings. Good one.

Definitely a dangerous beer in terms of drinkability vis-a-vis alcohol! Malty flavours with hint of coffee. Smooth and velvety.

On tap in Baramousse in Arras, Served in a nice glass. Nice dark beer but looks a little creamy. Taste is nice, little bitterness but goes after 2 seconds. Taste is slightly fruity and little spicy. Very nice strong beer which you cant taste the alcohol.

on tap at saint-bock, mtl. unclear medium dark brown pour with a nice creamy beige head offering good retention and lacing. demerara sugars, spicy chocolate, brown caramelized belgian nutty maltiness - surprisingly leaning a bit more towards chocolate which is slightly unusual in belgian brews, some berry fruitiness, also with dried raisin notes, loads of belgian spices - cloves, coriander, cinnamon; oak wooden notes, chewy fruity belgian yeast action. bright carbonation, medium body - and surprisingly not too heavy at this abv; semi-sweet and kind of hot spicy finish. complex, tasty and authentic high-gravity brown belgian ale, but not exactly my cup of tea.

Bottle. Deep Reddish-Brown in colour. Very malty (toffee, candy sugar, lots of chocolate, roasty malts). Spicy (cinnamon, coriander, clove). Fruity (dark fruits, raisins). Yeasty in the taste (but no floaties). Warming alcohol very evident. Very sweet. Too sweet! (2008)
