COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tripel, as solid as a castle. A full bodied beer, brewed with Belgian hops, to enjoy quietly, with a powerful, distinctive flavour: flowery, hop bitterness and soft alcohol.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, sugar, hops, yeast, antioxidant (ascorbic acid).

Pours pale golden with big white head. Poor retention. Final pour adds the yeast remains, making the beer hazy. Strong carbonation, a bit too much to be honest. Smell of alcohol and sugar, maybe corn. Taste: sugar, alcohol, corn. Hint of bitter, but mostly a sweet finish. Feels as if the unnecessary high alcohol kills the hoppy, floral and fruity notes, leaving the beer somewhat thin and simple. It lacks complexity and the high alcohol and large amount of sugar deny the beer character. After an unfortunate clash with the Donker, I had hoped that with this tripel Kasteel would redeem itself. Alas, it did not.

Pours pale golden with a minimal, creamy, white head. The aroma contains malt, hops, corn, yeast, herbs, fruits and alcohol. Medium sweet and fruity onset, leading to a medium bitter, hoppy and yeasty taste, with a dry, astringent and alcoholic finish. Creamy texture and lively carbonation. The alcohol doesnt have a warming but a rather boozy effect. Overcarbonated. Not a great success.

Very nice Tripel with an unusally high amount of alcohol. But delivers nicely. Nice, estery aromas and good mouthfeel. Relaxing...!

Bottled. Pours deep golden with thin head. Sweet, yeasty aroma with boozy notes. Sweet fruity-yeasty taste with very slight hops and strong alcoholic notes. Leaves warm mouthfeel and long sweetish finish. Medium bodied and slighlty overcarbonated. Mediocre.

From75cl bottle. Pours hazy, pale amber with average white foam. Aroma is of caramel and honey, plus some liquor feeling. Body is medium-dense, with lots of carbonation and some stickiness. Taste is rather sweet and liquor-like, with honey coming up. Also white-pulp fruit. Finish is sweet and average in length.

Bottle, 0.33l. Slightly cloudy copper pour with slight red hue. One finger creamy white head with average retention. Lasting thin layer. Pleasant nose, yeasty and malty with a herbal touch. Medium body with smooth texture. Pretty high on carbonation, lively on the tongue. Malt sweetness and alcohol bitterness mixed well for nicely balanced taste. Aroma of malt, yeast, herbs and liquor. Caramel and toffee. Slight wood and nuts notes. Subtle tartness as it warms up. Boozy finish, mostly dry, medium lasting. Overall, pretty good tripel. Tasty.

Bottle. Pale yellowy gold in colour. Spicy (peppery; cloves & coriander). Fruity (citrus, banana, peach). Yeasty in the taste (but no floaties). Malty base. Sweet fruity leading to a dry finish. Warming alcohol very evident. (2008)

Luneylane (134) - Taipei City, TAIWAN - FEB 8, 2017
A bottle at the Cafe Bastille, near Tai Power Building. Aroma: rather sour, vinous fruits, sherry. Appearance: clear, gold, minimal lacing. Palate: full-bodied and oily, soft carbonation, long, complex and very boozy finish. Taste: booze, clearly a heavyweight. Very astringent, perhaps too much so - I am no fan of candy flavour, but half way through the glass I found myself wanting just a little more sweetness.
