Ein starkes, helles, untergäriges Bier. Es ist weder süß noch wuchtig, sondern herb und frisch – wie das Allgäu im Frühjahr!

guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - AUG 10, 2007
Bright gold appearance with an average size white head and spotty lacing. An organic, herbal aroma was there at first, but it faded and left a less inspired sweetness. Taste was primarily sweet malts, including caramel and soft fruit; hoppiness was low keyed. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel leading to a lingering, but gummy, finish.

wxman (1848) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - JUL 28, 2007
Pours a pale gold with minimal white head. Mild aroma of hop flowers and pale malt. Sweet malt flavor, almost like rock candy, along with some mild hoppiness. Malt liquor characteristics noted as well. Not bad, but wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase again.

ganache (6057) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 20, 2007
Bottle from Stateline. Sweet yeasty aroma with fruit (some green apple, too) and pale malt, honey and oat bran cereal. Sickly pale yellow-golden pour with a soapy, creamy white head. Body slightly oily, thin aspiring to be medium, dry and lightly malty. Touch of sweetness, almost lactic in character, slightly herbal. Honey and perhaps muscat, both linger in the long dry aftertaste. Below avg for style.

porterhouse (1580) - Boothbay, Maine, USA - JUL 16, 2007
(500 ml bottle (simply called "Aktien Maibock", stamped "02.06") from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maryland/baltim target=blank>Wells Discount Liquors) Mostly smooth rich malt with a tiny bitter bite...Pours hazy pale yellow with a marshmallow fluff white head. Aroma of honey, bread, hay and something a bit sourish like wet blanket. Mouthfeel quite full, fairly smooth. Taste is kind of a sweet and sour honey/bread/hay with a bit of bitterness. Hint of smoke. Bit of licorice in finish. Liked it but not sure about the light sour/wet blanket aspect.

DocLock (11048) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 21, 2007
Bottle from State Line. Medium gold pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of apricot, honey, pale malt, hopcitrus, slight white peppercorns. Tastes fruity at first, matched by a solid hopcitrus and a firm amount of malty sweetness, but not too sweet.

Braudog (6837) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - JUN 19, 2007
500ml bottle -- poured virtually clear, only lightly carbonated, with a thin head. The aroma was shockingly malty and mashy, like an operating brewery smells. The flavor is excessively musty, biscuity and flat. There’s a bit of a lemon cookie swirl to it, but otherwise this is a disappointingly flat, lifeless mellowly yellow brew. (#2984, 6/19/2007)
Earlier Rating: 6/6/2007 Total Score: 2.8
500ml bottle; Poured with a nice sunshiney reflective golden hue and a bombastic, fizzy head that quickly laid down into a small white foam head. The aroma is ein bischen syrupy, but mostly a light malt. This drinks easily, slightly viscuous, but not overly so. Except for a tad bit of an alcoholy bite, this drinks not much different than an everyday helles, without much of a stand-out character either way. (#2961, 6/6/2007)

stegosaurus (1882) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2007
Bottle sampled. Pours golden with an average size white head. Aroma of caramel malts, slight fruit, and grains. The flavor is sweet, caramel, fruit, alcohol is present, but hops are not detectable. Not a bad brew.

Sombeast (151) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 27, 2007
Rated at the Pewaukee Tasting II 5/5/07. Appearance – Clear, pale yellow, medium carbonation Aroma – A little honeyed sweetness, a little sourness Flavor – Follows aroma Palate – medium bodied

Ofortuna (322) - Grafton, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 21, 2007
Huge frothy head that caught me off guard! Whoa, that’s a lively one! Noble hops making their presence known in the aroma. A little corn I dare say as well? Slight nutty character and a bit of mustiness as well. Don’t know if this held up too well. Decent malt sweetness for the style and the overall use of noble hops saves this one. Ordinary.

TheBeerGod (6261) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - MAY 13, 2007
Bottle. Sparkling gold body. Tall white froth on the surface. Nose is malty and sweet with grains, some buttery bread and grassy notes. Taste is sweet and malty with more grains, buttery bread, and grass or hay. It’s very sweet in spots and has some cereal notes as well. Body is soft but medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes with more grains, cereal, sweet malts, grass and buttered bread. Not bad.
