on tap at the dutch during lunch with buddies. Pours a jet black with ruby on the edges, small off white head with fair retention. lacing clings to the side of the glass a bit. Nose with fairly bland, hints of roast and chocolate. Taste is roast and hint of chocolate. Cutting bitterness but not much hop flavor. Mouth is dry, chewy, and astringent. Tough to swallow one, yet alone two (sorry coldbrewky.)

BeerandBlues2 (14027) - Escondido, California, USA - OCT 26, 2013
Tap at The Peekskill Brewery. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy and spicy hops, roast and chocolate malt with prunes and figs. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness, supporting malt, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Draft at the source. Clear dark maroon color, fluffy tan head with good retention. Aroma of peppery cocoa owder. Taste is roasty coffee grounds, cocoa. Decent.

Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 9/20/13

Aroma: The nose is decently roasty, pretty malty, with some hop notes as well
Appearance: It poured a dark black color with a small head (could barely see it in the dark bar)
Flavor: The taste is fairly balanced and on-style, with roasted malts and some hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a slightly chewy feel, and a dry, roasty finish
Overall Impression: This was a decent Black IPA overall. Not great, not bad, just straight-up decent. I could certainly drink it again.

Draught. Nice nearly opaque brown with a tan head and some lace. The aroma is mostly a simple roast malt with very little hops. The flavor is off with dusty card board obscuring a, spicy roast and simple bitterness. The mouthfeel while fresh is very heavy with something off, like wet paper. Not a fan

I thought this was one of the better black IPAs out there. Tastes almost like a porter, but thinner and with a lot of hops. I’m surprised by the low rating.

My first beer from Keegan Ales! Dark ruby brown color, small beige head. Light citrusy hoppyness and some toasted notes in the aroma. Medium-bodied. Cold coffee and hayish citrusy hoppyness. Crisp carbination. This kind of toasted coffee flavor doesn’t work to me so well.

boFNjackson (4230) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Tap @ The Blind Tiger... Poured near black with an off-white head. Pepper-spiced, earthy hop nose. Mild roast, chalky ash, mild malt sweetness and bread-like qualities. Leafy, pine-like hops. Earthy with citrus tones. Low bitterness. Grapefruit finish.

coldbrewky (1731) - Hippetown East, New York, USA - FEB 21, 2012
On tap at the Dutch for lunch. First impressions are weak nose. Flat black with quickly diminishing head. Probably the base for mothers milk without the added lactose. Medium body with a watery finish. More of a well hopped porter than an IPA. Meh.

blipp (9929) - La Mesa, California, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Draft. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Piney hoppy aroma with roasted malts. The flavor has piney and lemony hops with hard roasted malts. Not bad.
