This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a subtle hazy burnt brown color with some sedimentary flaky looking particles. Quickly dissipating head. Rimmed lace running here and there. The smell had some honey, sweet, somewhat strong, invasive sweet cherries, like oaky, dried grassy hops. The taste was mainly sweet towards the honey and cherries. Tobacco slyly moves and cleans on up into the aftertaste with a quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Fair sessionability about it. Carbonation feels decent. Overall, for the most part its a nice sessionable American styled strong ale, balanced and good. Id have again.

polo_marco (322) - milton, Vermont, USA - JAN 26, 2016
Smells of malts and hints of honey. Rich brown color with lots of bits of wood particles floating through it for a lovely look. Malts come out nicely at first then flavor changes quick to sweet honey followed by a smooth oak wood finish. Full body lightly carbonated. Booze very well hidden for being 12% abv way to put out a great ale.

12 oz bottle pour to snifter..marked on side batch from 13..picked this up north a few years ago..pours a brownish red color with all kinds of larger particles at first..small white head....nose is faint wood mixed with cheap maple syrup and molasses...some trace of the honey in there as well..mouthfeel was a bit thinner than anticipated, not as complex as expecting..alcohol is hidden well up front but does come back with a slight char/warmth a few seconds later..has some character of a strong ale/barleywine/winter warmer..expected much more with this one

Growler pour from Albany brew crew. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and "red" roasted malt. Maybe get slight honey but subtle. Quite nice and complex. Taste is malty, very slight sweet finish and bitter hop finish. Doesn't taste anywhere near 12%. Lots of balance. Malty but not sticky. Even more bitter than sweet. There must be a ton of hops balancing this one. Vanilla bourbon flavors come through in the flavor too. Real nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 16, 2015
750mL bottle. Poured deeper burgundy with a short-lived head. The aroma picked up warm caramel and fruity sweetness with a lot of sugars present. The flavor found warm honey, redder fruits, and spicy pepper.. not a lot of carbonation left. Heavier-bodied and slightly-oxidized.. this held up well.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking.Clear mahogany color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Stings of lacing. Dark fruit, malt and hops in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, dark fruits and floral hops. The finish is toffee and raisins. Solid beer all around.
