Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Pours very dark brown with a decent sized beige head. Aroma of coffee beans, wood smoke, bitter dark chocolate. The flavour is dominated by smoke, it's bittersweet with light coffee & dark malts. Thin bodied, moderate carb, dry smoked coffee finish, super smooth mouthfeel. Pretty good

Beaverex train beer 4500. Pours near opaque brown with a small brown head which soon recedes. Aroma is smoke and coffee. Taste is smokey, coffee, vanilla, cocoa bitter, slight dark berries.

Zlotta (3725) - Hagen / Düsseldorf, GERMANY - SEP 6, 2017
0.33 l bottle from 'Speciaalbierpakket.nl', best before February 2019. Black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Slightly sweetish, malty, rather roasty and slightly smoky aroma of dark chocolate, lots of coffee, licorice and some ash with a touch of peat. Moderately sweet, malty, rather roasty and a little smoky taste of dark chocolate, licorice, lots of coffee, some ash and hints of peat, followed by a medium long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy-dry and slightly peaty finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very interesting but a bit unround, overall quite good though!

Bottled from BierNavigatie.nl. Opaque dark brown colored, huge everlasting brown head, bit over the top initially, but the lacing may be the best i’ve ever seen. Intense nose of roasted malts, coffeeish, whiskyish, oatmeal, some peat perhaps, very nice. Not overly bitter in flavor, lots of roasted malts, caramel, some coffee, hint of whisky, sweetness, almost salty in finish. Probably not a beer for everyone with the emphasis on malts combined with peat and salty notes, but i must say personally i really like it. Remarkable that i didn’t like the Emelisse version, did the recipe change or did i change?

Clear dark brown beer, practically no head, just some beige bubbles. Aroma: very peated, sweet, caramel, lots of coffee, very roasted, sugary, more peat smoke. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty roasted, sweet caramel, bitter touch, peated, more roast and smoke flavours. Aftertaste: lots and lots of coffee, roasted, smoky, charcoal, ashes, very bitter, too much coffee and peat for me, lacks some balance, the result is too harsh for me. And it’s not just because I ain’t no coffee guy. :p

33cl-fles van bij Bierhalle Deconinck te Vichte. U: Zwart met een dunne licht bruine schuimkraag. G: Lichte turf, geroosterd, rook en leder. S: Moutbitter, wat zoet. Geroosterd, koffie en licht gerookt. Droge afdronk. M: Volmondig met een lichte carbonatie.

EBC 75 EBU 30. Zwart bier met kleine beige schuimkraag. Geur: turf, leder, Ardeense ham, koffie chicorei. Smaak: geroosterde mout, licht zoet, aards, koffie. Mooie balans. Romig mondgevoel. Matige koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: droog

Bottle. Had no idea this was a kees, it looks very different. Pours nearly black, small white head. Smell is smoked, and so is the tastem some burnt aspects,but no clear coffee to me. To smoked for my taste.

Alengrin (5629) - BELGIUM - JUL 22, 2017
Commissioned smoked porter with added coffee, taken over from Emelisse by its prodigious son Kees Bubberman. Bottle shared by 77ships at tderoeck’s place in Ghent. Thin, pale yellowish beige head, retaining on the edge but opening in the middle, over a very dark caramel brown beer, blackish in general appearance but with translucent mahogany brown edges. Aroma of smoked herring, coffee beans, light moist peat, bitter black chocolate, walnuts, dried fig, Cuban cigars, cappuccino, caramel candy, leather, bayleaf. Candied fig-like sweetishness in the onset, dried berry touch, light dried meat-like umami accent, soft carbo, oily mouthfeel. Thick caramelly and very nutty malt body leading to an increasingly smoky profile, ’smoked bacon umami’ almost but not that expressive, mixing with generic coffee powder bitterness, bit leathery, with toasted peanuts in the aftermath alongside herbal and spicy hops and warming, near-whisky-like alcohol. Beautiful porter, bringing the features of smoked porter (think Alaskan) and coffee porter together in a remarkably balanced way.

Tasting glass from 330 ml. bottle @ “Belgian Ticks Tasting Ghent”. Black, thick big coffee, mocha head. Nose is great balance of clear but not overly heavy peat, mocha, chocolate, roasted chocolate. Thick bodied, chocolate, low syrup. Great balance of peat & chocolate with some coffee, touch sweet, some coffee roast, clear not to heavy peat, thick. Good stuff for sure. I had the Emelisse version quite a few years ago, I also remember quite digging that one.
