Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, strawberry, chocolate and roasted malts.
Opaque black beer with a slight/medium dark brown head.
Starts slightly/medium sweet with malts, caramel, strawberry and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts.
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. The strawberry is more noticeable in the aroma than in the taste, but the flavour is great nonetheless. Could have been higher in the alcohol, making it more intense.
0.33 l bottle from ’De Hopduvel’, best before December 2018. Clear, very dark red to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish, artificially fruity and slightly roasty-malty aroma of mainly strawberry yoghurt, accompanied by hints of dark chocolate and a touch of licorice. Moderately sweet, quite roasty-malty and rather artificially fruity taste of strawberry yoghurt, dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, licorice and hints of ash, followed by a rather long, quite roasty-bitter, earthy finish. Almost medium-bodied, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Strange stuff, tastes quite artificial, way too much strawberry, and the first sip was not really pleasant. But I get used to it with every sip, it’s quite drinkable actually and less sweet than I would have thought, but still not what I expected from a beer that I highly anticipated. Uit de fles geschonken. Beetje een tegenvaller. Te kunstmatig van smaak. Combinatie aardbei en koffie vind ik niet de lekkerste. Het bier wordt wel beter naarmate het glas leger raakt, dan wordt de balans beter.

33cl Bottle at The Black Smith. Almost black colour, dense beige head. Aroma of strawberry milkshake or ice cream, quite sweet, roasted malts, caramel. Flavour is medium sweet, artificial strawberry, but also quite dry and bitter, ashy, roasted malts, brown malts, light hoppy, strawberry ice cream, bitter finish. Light bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A bit overdone, but certainly enjoyable. caesar (7165) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - SEP 10, 2016
Bottle from De Caigny, btch# 16.41, BB 12/18, large sample. Dark brown color, short frothy brown head. Aroma of strawberry milkshake, slight milk chocolate, bit flowery, vanilla ice cream. Lots of caramelly and toffee sweetness, slight strawberry fruitiness, bit roast, slight malty bitterness. Wow. I think there is a lot of the caramel fudge stout in this one, together with a strawberry milkshake. I hope the strawberries hold up well, but I wonder if the beer would be a good one to age. But I had it fresh at least. I also dont think all people will like this one, probably a hate or love, but I actually love these kinds of experiments. Erasmus_ro (3060) - Alabama, USA - SEP 9, 2016
