Half Liter Swing-Top Bottle from Germany. Mine had a green label. An excellent Hefeweizen! Banana, wheat scent with a hint of clove. Cloudy, hazy hay colored pour with a foamy white head with stay power. Medium bodied, silky feel. Similar to scent, a banana, wheat flavor with a mix of spices, clove maybe. Loved it.

Bottle at Punto Birra. Cloudy yellow pour with a white head. Fruity nose. Wheat characteristics with fruit notes (maybe more from the malt than the hops). Medium body and nice carbonation. Would be better served on a sunny day in a German beer garden....

500 ml bottle. From bierzwerg.de.
Hazy orangey golden colour with big white head. Wheat, yeast, fruit and mild caramel in aroma. Not bad at all. Flavour is sweetish caramel, fruits, grain yeast and wheat. Proper Hefeweizen. Quite thin though. Very drinkable.

10/12 Marko’s 0.5 l bottle, thanks for sharing! It poured hazy orange body with medium sized head. Orange, caramel, some yoghurt and chalk aroma. Cloying, nice flavor, yoghurt again, weaker notes of caramel, lot of chalky yeast. Fuller body. Quite long sweetish chalky finish. Not typical for the style, but still very nice brew.

Bottle. Hazy dark yellow color with a thick white head. Aroma is honey and wheat. A bit harsh on palate. Quite malty taste for a German Hefe.

Excelen Hefe weissen with a strong head and deep wheat aroma. Caramel notes with little backbite. Excellent after dinner beer.

A: Pours a golden amber color that features the kind of haze I expect out of a hefeweizen. I am, however, impressed with its head, a towering, fluffy three plus finger head. Retention isn’t amazing (though it’s damn good) but I’m pretty impressed with its lacing. S: I’m surprised how earthy the nose on this is. It seems to rely less on fruity esters (banana, clove, etc.) and more on the noble aspect. Grassy, as well. T: Again, the star of the show isn’t the ester profile, it’s the hops. There’s plenty of grassy, earthy hops complementing the smooth wheat base. Very refreshing and easy to drink, but it needs more in the way of banana/clove esters (they exist, but are far too mild on the tongue). While it doesn’t have amazing complexity, or the X-factor of a Weihenstephaner, it still gets the job done admirably. M: Lighter bodied with only a hint of astringency on the back end. Well carbonated and easygoing. O: I enjoy it, but it’s not my favorite hefe. It’s not on par with Weihenstephaner’s or Sierra Nevada’s hefeweizen, but it’s a fine example of the style. I still can’t wait to try the dunkel version of this. It isn’t worth killing your family to find it, but it’s definitely worth a try if it falls into your lap.
