Mini growler at Half-Time. Pours a clear ruby brown color with a medium sized tan head. Sweet malt and chocolate are prominent with a bit of yeast behind. Mouthfeel is medium with a good amount of sweetness and a little chocolate flavor coming through. Finish is also gentle and sweet. jcwattsrugger (12592) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - NOV 13, 2007
@ Brazen Head on cask-pours a tan head and dark brown/red color. Aroma is chocolate, dusty, dark fruit. Taste is chocolate, dusty, dark fruit, secondary flat/metallic (English?) hops. Interesting, like a dark mild. Mild carbonation. JoeMcPhee (10225) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 3, 2007
Cask at the Brazen Head. This beer actually worked very well in the cask. Deep hazy brown with a thin white head. Nice soft chocolate aroma with a touch of herbal/root beer spiciness. Spicy noble hops. Lovely soft earthy yeastiness. A hint of earthy chocolate and a nice minerally finish. Soft rich palate. Nice beer really. blipp (10185) - La Mesa, California, USA - DEC 20, 2009

Brewfest NY 08. Man i wish i was able to write down notes at the fest, but it was pouring rain and I had an umbrella in one hand, and my drinking glass in the other. I remember this being below average though. Obviously need to try it again.

Deep dark brown coloured body that shows at about 80% opacity with a nice, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, light nuts and a larger earthiness, some lighter caster sugar and sweet elements and finishing with a lot of chocolate and oatmeal characteristics. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive toasted malt flavours at first with a heavier hand of lactose and cacao notes with some oatmeal, grain and toffee all around the fringes. Aftertaste shows more of a malty kick with the earth and grain noticeable at first, but some light sweetness followed by a bit of the pure chocolate near the end makes this go down quite easily. Not much complexity and there isn't a big depth of malty flavours or a pungency from the yeast, since this still does show as a lager, despite it's bit malt side of things. Overall, a nice beer to sample and showing some good characteristics considering the style, but nothing too amazing or crazy, just a nice one to sample if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 24-February-2018 for US$2,25 sampled at home in Monroe, Connecticut on 09-March-2018 with my brother and sister-in-law. Draft. Pours a brown body. Notes of coco, chocolate, a hint of smoke, caramel, dark fruit. Not bad. Dickinsonbeer (5073) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - NOV 22, 2010
Tap at the Lark. Pours a nice deep dark brown, woody almost a lighter coal black. Aroma is nutty, earthy toasty, light chocolate malts, slgiht grass, vegetable, and light roast with a slight lager yeast twang. Flavor is earthy, slight mineral, moderate chocolate malt, slight coffee bean hint, ash, crackery nutty malts, some burnt toast, yeasty. Finish is fairly dry- just a little bit mixed up and not quite refined enough, malt seemed a tad bit sharp on the edges for a lager. Ok. goldtwins (4319) - Nesconset, New York, USA - DEC 10, 2007
Brewtopia 07. Poured a mostly clear brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of diacetyl and light chocolate.. Dry mild chocolate flavor and a fairly dry finish. beastiefan2k (4271) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - NOV 4, 2007
Brazen Head Cask Fest. Color is brown with translucent edges. Aroma is a smokey chocolate and sweet caramel. Taste is a bit empty with sweet malts but nothing off-putting. A light and quaffable beer with a very nice aroma. Would not hesitate to try on tap.
Cask, half pint glass.
