F: thin, white, quick gone. C: gold, hazy. A: malt, some pepper, gingerbread, light sugary, herbal, juniper. T: in the taste is juniper much more noticeable, herbal, light green banana, pear, citrus, perfume, medium body, good carbonation, interesting and for me also tasty beer, bottled 20/02/2014, BB: 20/02/2017, 0,33l bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout.

Alengrin (5383) - BELGIUM - JUN 12, 2016
Belgian blonde spiced with juniper berries. Irregular, moussy, snow white, stable head on top of a hazy yellow golden beer with ’old gold’ hue and a ’mist’ of yeast throughout. Aroma indeed carries a lot of unmistakable juniper berry (reminiscent of ’oude jenever’), next to impressions of raw celery or even lettuce, straw, banana, green apple (acetaldehyde), white bread, field flowers, vague nutmeg somewhere, unripe pear. Fruity onset, estery with hints of pear, green banana and unripe apricot but in all fairly ’clean’, subtly sweetish with a sourish edge, softish carbonation, lean and supple body, bit grainy middle with bready maltiness at its core, before the juniper berries take over and yield an aromatic retronasal spiciness which cannot be mistaken for anything else - almost like green cypress needles. Restrained ’green’ banana sweetishness and bready malt sweetishness continue underneath and a dash of floral, slightly spicy hops add late but effective bitterness. Not being a fan of juniper berries and having experienced exaggerated spiciness in some other Kempisch Vuur beers, I was dreading this one a bit, to be honest, but it turns out okay: if you must make a Belgian blonde ale with spices, then at least make sure it is technically flawless, and that is exactly what has been achieved here. I will never be fond of juniper aromas but other than that, this is a decent beer and delivers exactly what it claims. And fortunately it has no real jenever flavor other than the juniper berry effect, because I sincerely hate jenever.

Golden blond liquid, average head. Heavy aroma, jenever? Ligth body, strong carbonation. Taste is sweet, sharp, with a strong touch of herbs (rosemary).

33cl bottle at The Capital, Leuven. Hazy yellow / orange with a medium white head. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Herbal bitterness with some sweet tones in the background. Citrus, iodine, perfume, juniper, grass and herbs. Weird but I still liked it :)

Icedwarf (1659) - Etten-Leur, NETHERLANDS - MAR 7, 2015
Helder geel bier met schuim. Smaak is heel apart, iets van grond achtige ondertoon en noot achtig. Mogelijk de Jenever ? Verder heel licht zoet, niet bitter. Is even wennen maar heel apart bier.

DrDrood (37) - GERMANY - JAN 11, 2015
Süßlicher Duft, Mandarine etwas Honig. Auf der Zunge breitet sich ein Gefühl von Schaumwein aus. Im Abgang eine dezente Süße, angenehme herbe Noten und ein Hauch von Mandarinen.
