An interesting brew indeed, but not amazing. Aroma is full of bitter coffee and very roasty. Some coconut sweetness is present, but a bit too burnt for me to truly enjoy. I’m not a big fan of smokey, roasty beers. Flavor is a bit of mess, with the sweetness and coffee doing battle instead of finding an acceptable compromise. Finish has some nice bitterness, but more than I’d like for a porter, and there is a bit of alcohol present. Overall a nice complex brew, but it doesn’t quite work for me.

Opaque, very dark brown color. Aroma is more coffee than expected, roasty chocolate malts and maybe a hint of nuttiness. No coconut really...? Taste, same deal,.if I didn’t know this was made with coconut I never would have guessed. Coffee is the dominant flavor here, but it’s not really a nice rich coffee flavor, it ’s more like cold, old coffee grounds - kind of stale, something about the taste I don’t like though I’m not sure I can pinpoint exactly what it is. Maybe it’s a little metallic? I was really hoping for great things in this beer, but it is not everything I thought it would be. Not terrible, it does have some good qualities, but it’s not a far step away from your average porter.

nearly opaque in color with a delicious aroma. the taste is that of a delicious coffee, but unfortunately, not much else as the label on the bottle would have you believe. However, still an excellent beer.

At a tasting, thanks YK23, bottle, pours very dark brown with dark brown head, dominant aroma of strong roasted coffee, coconut taste, sweet taste on the tongue, flavor fills your mouth, and overall a creative and excellent cooperation produced a delicious beer.

This was a very interesting and delicious beer. Very roasty and loaded with different flavors. Tasted like coffee, toffee, brown sugar, nuts, light chocolate. I was very intrigued by this beer, and I can only say that you’ll have to try it to understand. Absolutely awesome

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Poured a dark brown w/ white top. Aroma was of coffee beans and tea bags. Flavor was of spice, chocolate, and coffee. Good beer.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2009 Re-rate under better circumstances: Dark brown pour, medium sized fizzy brown head. Aroma and flavor are lots and lots of coffee, a nice, light nuttiness and a faint coconut sweetness. Nice, viscous mouthfeel. Quite good, but I still don’t think it justifies its price point.

Bottle, pours black with thick tan head. Aroma, amazing deep and complex its the overwhelming coffee but beyond that there’s a deep roastiness. Like an old pot of coffee that is almost burnt and really strong - musty and a slight sweetness. Taste - where to begin the coffee sure but there’s so much more tongue tingles, with hop bitterness and a deep roasted flavor. I love it.

12 oz’er from a trade with my buddy Rybeast on the Left Coast. Very, very excited about this. Lovely pour, ample light-brown head. Aroma is heavy roast, fresh, dark coffee... so strong, hits you when you’ well before you reach the glass. One word -- SILK. Holy shit, this is smooth. Coffee flavor dominates, bursts when held in the mouth.Touches of roasted coconut. My lord this is delicious. Extremely impressed with the mouthfeel, so smooth. Just enough bitterness to . Sweet, with just enough bitterness to balance it out. Thanks so much Ryan. Thrilled to try this.

Pours dark brown with almost no head. Faint, pleasant aroma of chocolate and coffee. Initially strongly tastes of coffee with nut and chocolate addition. Moves into a flavor of hops, then finishes with more of the big roasted coffee character in a lingering aftertaste.
