Bottle from Trader Joe's. dark pour with a small white head. Aroma is vanilla, light, and toasty. Taste is lots of vanilla, spice, chocolate, and cinnamon.
(12oz bottle ... Different label and 5.7% ABV) AROMA: dark chocolate, roasted wheat/barley, some coffee, bran, english muffin APPEARANCE: dark brown with a reddish tint, light coffee head, tight foam TASTE: extra dark chocolate, unsweetened capucino, roasted nuts, wood, tartness in the middle PALATE: medium body, relatively bold flavor, initially light/smooth/watery then biting/acidic, bitter finish, a bit unbalanced OVERALL: interesting beer, not sure what to make of it as i dont drink many porters (are the flavors off or not?), solid choco-coffee flavors with some creaminess, maybe a bit lighter than a top porter. geologyguy (1662) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - MAY 11, 2017
Medium strength coffee smell...taste is same with roasted malt...good boldness but not a lot of complexity... roasted malt more prevalent than the coffee.. pawleys island 2017...juli bought for me! nickd717 (4888) - San Francisco, California, USA - APR 15, 2017
Bottle. Darker brown in color with a well retained khaki head. Aroma is English style, damp earth, tea, milk chocolate, toffee. Flavor is medium sweet, earthy, sweet toffee notes, good bitter balance. Medium bodied, reasonably smooth feel. This seems to get a bad rap but it is quite enjoyable if you like the English version of the style. hershiser2 (3667) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 5, 2017
$1.00 bottle from Trader Joe’s, Charlottesville. Pours clear dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of cocoa powder, maybe some coffee. Flavor is strangely sweet up front and really bitter on the back end. Roasted nuts, coffee, some cocoa, and caramel. Odd. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - FEB 2, 2017
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated evenly leaving some speckled lace.
The aroma had some roasty coffee bean with some sweet and spicy black licorice. Roasted nuts. Caramel tones.
The flavor leaves some sweet to roasty coffee beans and milk chocolate sweetness flowing underneath a huge amount of caramel and toffee malts. Slick malty aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Roastiness seems tame along my tongue but caramel malts seem to feel slick.
Overall, weird porter, as if there’s too much caramel malts going on. Not necessarily one I would come back to.

Nutty and sweet malt smells. Pours dark black with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Light lacing. The flavors are balanced toasted malt and nuts with a short slightly sour finish. Low carbonation and crisp mouthfeel. Nice porter. bigericsports (96) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 17, 2016
12oz bottle from Trader Joe’s, Deep brown pour with a thin light creamy head. The aroma is mainly of dark malts, slightly smokey and peppery with hints of figs, other dark fruits. A pretty good, easy drinking porter. thepatrickman (1502) - Lewes, East Sussex, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2016
Bottle from Trader Joe’s. An average to slightly below average porter, with a sweet, nutty caramel flavor at first that shows off more dark cocoa as it warms up. Thin and light, though, which made the flavors drop off quickly. Still, not a bad pint. kidmartinek (5007) - austin, Texas, USA - OCT 11, 2016
Pours dark. Frothy thin head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Very good and balanced. Just delicious. Jabah (536) - Winter Park, Florida, USA - JUL 18, 2016
This is not the best balanced porter. Extra sweet and extra bitter. Seemed more like a stout. Single sample grew on me somewhat and became drinkable, just below average for the style. Trader Joe’s beer seems to be hit or miss, but it’s cheap.
