COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentuckys finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

Was not bad but I expected more. It had a pleasant woodsy smell. Poured a nice deep color. It had a sharp alcohol taste. I did not pick up much flavor from the wood, or vanilla like I was expecting. It had a harsh finish. It could be I got a bad bottle.

Tap. Aroma is firmly Bourbon but below that lurks caramel malts and vanilla. Given that mine was emphatically brown I am bemused by the term golden in other reviews as my wedding band will never be this red. A circle of white bubbles topped the ale. Taste is toffee with an alcoholic kick. If salted caramel or Werthers Original ever lay in a barrel in Kentucky then their popularity might sour. And children might stumble. Carbonation soft Body full. Palate loaded. No horse in this race.

Ive been avoiding this for awhile, suspecting it wasnt going to be very good. I was mostly right, but it was better than expected. So its nice to have something bourbon barrel aged that isnt an imperial stout. Here though I could barely tell there was much oomph to the underlying ale. A heavier old ale/barleywine would work better. Decent vanilla/bourbon and oak flavors, lightly sweet caramel malts.

Pours a clear iced tea brown with a thin white head. Faint aroma of sweet bourbon and caramel. Very thin and light with a semi sweet caramel taste. Hides the alcohol very well. Smooth almost to the point of feeling watered down. Flavors arent very bold. Ok but nothing special. Fairly enjoyable.

@Lexington, Kentucky. Free beer at the conference bar, and really good as such. Amber and thick enough.

Ive tried this a few times on tap and from a bottle. Its weird how variable the beer is. The first time I tried it, it had big vanilla aromas with a nice mix of malt and bourbon. Every other time its tasted terrible.
