3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Nice looking orange-red-amber pour; almost-fizzy eggshell head becomes a sparse covering; no lacing. Aroma oak, caramel, malt sugar, alcohol--not bad. Rather falls apart in the flavor; sharp, uncharacteristic bitterness, cheap bourbon flavor; finish is excessively astringent, and there are plenty of quality 10% brews that hide it much better than this. Medium-thin, almost frothy body. Not as bad as the first 20 raters suggest, but there’s much better out there.
Malzig trockener Antrunk. Geringe Herbe, deutlich würzig, spritzig. Rund, vollmundig, etwas zu schwach. Gut. 10/9/9/9//9 oldrtybastrd (5228) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 11, 2016
Pours a dark reddish brown color. Aromas of dark fruit, malts, a citrus hops. Flavor had big alcohol taste mixed a nice hop action and lots of fruit and malt flavors. markducommun (1224) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2016
Clear tan red, almost no head. Lightly fruity, vanilla, alcohol on the nose. Pretty sweet. Very upfront alcohol. Quite oily. Medium body. Fine. Not terribly well balanced.

beardsonbrews hooked me up with this gem... I am SURE I’ve had it before, but am still stoked to get a new review! Thanks Mike!! Pours a little hazy amber with a good light khaki head.. Caramel and treacle notes with vanilla woody tannins.. A bit astringent but gets a lot better with warmth.. Cool to try an old favorite once again, thanks buddy!! cgarvieuk (25992) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 17, 2016

Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Clear deep plum color. One finger of frothy beige head. Retention is alright given the ABV and a short ring of lacing is left.
3.25 S: The barrel comes through well. Big leather, vanilla, and oak. Caramel, toastiness. Just a few hints of dark fruits including plum, red apple, and a touch of raisin. The base beer doesn’t offer a whole lot.
2.25 T: The taste is severely lacking. It’s all barrel and no base beer. Leather, tannic astringency, vanilla, oak. Toasty. Just a touch of plum, raisin, and toffee. Overall pretty dry.
2.25 M: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Lacking all creaminess.
2.0 D: This is a pretty piss poor beer. Fails miserably as a barleywine.

The bottle I’m using to rate this was bottled on 10/20/14, so this review isn’t entirely the same as when it’s fresh. This barely wine smells of caramel and candied dates. Taste is a syrupy caramel with some tart berries. The barrel flavor shows up in the finish. It’s better than when I had it fresh a year ago. Poured a ruby red color with an off white head. Aroma was of caramel, dark fruit and oak. Flavor is caramel upfront by a big bitter and booze punch, something off, and an oak finish. Not great. crossovert (13914) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 22, 2015
355ml bottle. This tastes like a bunch of highly rated oxidized barleywines so the ilk that enjoys that stuff might dig this. It is musty, sweet and white raisin/carmally, some barrel funk, oxidization, typical of the style. tsd08460 (1246) - Marshall, Virginia, USA - JUN 27, 2015
