Kentucky Kölsch® is a top-fermented ale, a classic style of beer originating in Cologne, Germany. According to German beer law, only beers brewed in Cologne can carry this illustrious title. Aside from our brewery’s Kentucky location, we are certain Kentucky Kölsch® lives up to these high beer standards. For years, Alltech master brewers have used their very own specialized yeast, which is the single greatest contributor to this remarkably flavorful and award-winning microbrew. Our master brewers’ recipe calls for imported pale malts and malted white wheat to create an exceptionally smooth finish.

Kentucky Kölsch® was renamed from Kentucky Light in Spring 2013 to more accurately reflect its beer style. The light-bodied, crisp ale is a German-style Kölsch ale, a classic style of beer originating from Cologne, Germany. With the increasing savvy of craft beer enthusiasts, the Kölsch descriptor is now better recognized and understood.

   AROMA 4/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 4/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 8/20

Terrible Scores for this one so far. Soft grain and lemon grass aroma, bubblegum maybe. Hazy yellow, bubbly. Way over sweet, brings to mind eating cookie dough - for sugar cookies. Slippery and watery. Just a light beer with zest for garnishing purposes.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2017 Think it's getting a little unfairly slagged off here, but it could be better.

@Lexington airport. Kolsch is by no means my favourite beer style, and this brew isn’t going to convert anyone. It has some aroma but disappoints in the mouth.

wombat23 (2165) - Texas, USA - JAN 14, 2017
Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pale straw, clear, white head. Aroma and taste of corn, grains, bread. Frankly, this is pretty awful stuff. Drain pour.

Aroma: grassy and slightly sour; Appearance: clear golden pour with thin white head that disappears quickly; Taste: follows nose with lots of cereal; Palate: light bodied with short finish; Overall: unpleasant. Would not get again.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale straw body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is bready and slightly grainy with a slight cereal note, and just a hint of fruitiness. The flavor is a little off for me, there’s a weird grape juice like fruitiness on the finish that turns me off. Some light cereal grain and crackery malt before that weirdness comes on. Light bodied and a bit clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Meh, pretty poor example of a Kolsch.

JPDIPSO (6317) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 30, 2016
Light yellow straw color with a thin head of white bubbles. Sweet grassy grain aromas with hints of white grapes. Some sweet pale malt flavors. Fairly dry in the finish and linger. 7/11

Pale yellow, nice head, aroma of corn, malt, sweetness, sourish flavor, malt, corn, weird, light bodied.

Pour is a hazy straw with a large white head. Aroma is some wet paper bag and burning. Flavor is some tartness from some kind of infection and watery after that. When I saw 1% for the style I said that could not be. Well I was wrong this is terrible.

obguthr (6919) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - SEP 26, 2016
Lemon and hay nose. Clear golden, thin head. Tart lemon, sugar cane and hay at midpalate, clean finish. Light body harsh mouthfeel. This one turned out wrong, hardly recognizable as a kolsch, just a soured mess.

djd07 (16452) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUL 17, 2016
On tap at Industry. Pours a hazy yellow gold with medium frothy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is faint wheat and citrus. Thin, wheat, grass, light finish, very bland.
