Hello, says I to myself, this is a touch on the darker side for lager. Then I took a more thorough look at the label to see it has been released as a Vienna and a big silly smile formed on my lips. There aren’t enough Vienna Lagers in the world. Full, juicy beers with biscuity golden malt playing a starring role and this is certainly the case in its lush golden amber appearance. The scent is of sweet wort, peaches and golden pastry, whereas the flavour is like biting into a slightly over-ripe apricot. That burst of autumnal mellowness that covers the tongue is accompanied by a flush of slightly coarse carbonation that spreads the flavour throughout the mouth. It carries a little bit of acidic tartness toward the finish and a return to the glazed pastry. This is fruitier than most Viennas I have enjoyed, but I think the most important part of that is that I have enjoyed this beer and the generosity of its flavours. Not entirely within style, but it is charming enough to get away with it. GlassBrass440 (321) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 21, 2014
Musty aroma off the bat. Follows up with caramel and melon. Big caramel flavor accented with a light bitterness. Light amber color with an offwhite head. omega (899) - NEW ZEALAND - MAY 6, 2014
Not a bad little Vienna. Quite soft and fruity on the palate with a little bit of zing to boot. Depth of flavours is minimal but could see this being a good thirst quencher for someone who is not a lager lout.
