3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Kinda meh. Dry stout bill with a bit more alcohol heat. Not a lot, it’s only 8.5%, but not enough character to back it up.
Got as a gift from RaulMondesi. 22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark/brown bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of smoke, charcoal, vanilla, cream, toffee, molasses, dark fruit, citrus, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate citrus/pine hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark/brown bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of smoke, charcoal, vanilla, cream, toffee, molasses, dark fruit, citrus, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and pepper/piney/citrus peel hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark/brown bread, nuttiness, smoke, char, citrus, pepper, pine, light molasses/dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate citrus/pine hop flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 8.5%. Overall this is an incredible imperial stout! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate citrus/pine hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. For an American style imperial stout, this does everything perfectly. Very rich and complex malts with supporting American C hops, without overwhelming the malt profile. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. olio (10695) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 10, 2017

Pours black color with a large beige head. Aroma is licorice and some roasted malts, caramel, fair amount of hops, some chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavor is bitter malty, chocolaty, mild cocoa notes, licorice, caramel sweetness. Quite nice and pleasant.
650ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a smooth light brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, chocolate, coffee and hops. Taste is smooth, roasty and hoppy with some herbal notes, coffee, chocolate and hints of syrup. Finish is hoppy, roasty and chocolatey with some coffee and earthiness. On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with small beige head. Roasted, malty, chocolate, light coffee, caramel, some dried fruit. Sweet with light bitterness in the end. Easy drinkable. Medium bodied. PugUglyBrewer (842) - - APR 28, 2017
Opaque black color with a creamy head of light brown foam built up like chocolate milk. Very rich and smooth stout going heavy on baking chocolate, caramel malt with some medium roast coffee, licorice root, plum, and vanilla layered in. beer_queue (147) - California, USA - MAR 12, 2017
Pours black with a big khaki head. Aromas of roasted malts and something metalic...IDK how else to explain it, but it’s kinda weird. Tastes smoky/malty up front (maybe coffee roasts) and transitions into a bitter, hoppy finish. Maybe a bit of dark chocolates if I’m reaching. Flavors die off after warming up. Medium body, pretty high carb, and dry as hell. It’s an imperial stout with not much to offer aside from smoke & hops. It’s like a black IPA. blipp (9929) - La Mesa, California, USA - FEB 10, 2017
Draft. Pours near black, with a beige head. Rich chocolate malts, moderate roast, some black patent, and lingering hoppy bitterness. Good stuff. Mrnoluv (361) - long beach, California, USA - DEC 11, 2016
Classic black stout look, smell is coffee, cocoa, chocolate. The taste is close to a sweet stout if you ask me, the swallow is bitter coffee, bitter sweet chocolate and a hint of saltiness to it. Great beer.
