COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

At Glacier Grill & Pizza, Coram. Pours hazy dark brown with a thin, off-white head. The vague aroma contains chocolate, caramel, some hops and licorice, virtually no smoke. It tastes light sweet and light bitter, with a short finish. Light body, rather watery texture, fizzy carbonation. I cannot believe the high overall score for this one (makes me think I had the wrong beer), but it’s not what I expect from a Scotch Ale. Drinkability is not enough to score high marks.

Burk i Stevensville. Ligger väl helt rätt i normen för öltypen. En aning sötma ordentligt med fudge. Mörk!

16 oz can in Idaho. Pours brown but so dark as to be opaque in the glass. Decent tan head. Appealing lightly spicy and faintly smoky aroma. The flavor also has these traits, as well as hints of coffee and cocoa nibs. Smooth, full mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

Can from MattW. Nice dark brown pour, scant beige head settled to ring. Ashy, smoky fireplace aroma. Taste is a bit more subdued, earthy hops, a bit sweet for a Scotch. Nice lasting dirty bitterness..

Shared at the July 2016 MDBG tasting, 7/11/16. Clear dark brown, thin fizzy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, caramel, smoke. The taste is cherries, smoke, toffee.

Red brown with a white head. Aroma is rich and caramelized. Taste is the same with just a bit of smoke in the finish. Thanks, dad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

beige head that left rings of lacing for the entire glass.. brew is brown... dark brown.. nice ruby highlites.. Biscuit malts and dark caramel... bready notes in the nose.. some expected esters that are not overplayed.. no hops, although I may be missing them.. Flavor is spot-on. malty and toffee... some very lite raisin... brown malts lingering ... good mix of yeasty fruitiness.. great body and carbonation.

4 pack from a shop in the Bozeman airport. This is a clear deep, rich red. Looks more brown in the dim light. A permanent, off-white head forms. Malty nose with vanilla, oak, toffee and just a faint whiff of smoke. Sure it’s sweet, but not too sweet. Tastes earthy like tobacco with suggestions of wood and vanilla. So clean and full bodied.

On tap at Gil’s Goods in Livingston. Pours a nice, dark, ruby brown, with no real head. The aroma is toffee, caramel, and some earthy notes. Sweet and malty, with a bit of bitterness. Medium body, crisp, grainy, and smooth. This is a mild and drinkable scotch ale. Not strong nor aggressive, and no real peat or oak which is a shame, but nice and malty.
