Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

Great scotch ale from Missoula, MT. Only available in Missoula due to such high demand.

Can received from Kevin. Pours clear dark brown with medium, frothy beige head, short retention. Moderate caramel, nutty and rich toasty malt, smoked wood notes, rich dark fruit, mild hop bitterness and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Draft. Aroma of plum and dried stone fruit. Thick lace. Flavors are complex: dried apricots, tobacco, earth, chocolate, a bit of espresso, all with a very chewy mouthfeel. Really wonderful beer.

Pours dark mahogany, frothy ivory head... Has a good look. Nose is fudge, tobacco, earth. Pretty good feel, medium, almost creamy. Toasty malts, some dark fruit. A candy like bitterness in the end was a hair off, a puff of smoke in there too.

Cold smoke is a gem. Smooth as butter. No after taste. Rich aromas.. Poors really dark, with a dark tan froth on top. Definitely a fav

At Glacier Grill & Pizza, Coram. Pours hazy dark brown with a thin, off-white head. The vague aroma contains chocolate, caramel, some hops and licorice, virtually no smoke. It tastes light sweet and light bitter, with a short finish. Light body, rather watery texture, fizzy carbonation. I cannot believe the high overall score for this one (makes me think I had the wrong beer), but it’s not what I expect from a Scotch Ale. Drinkability is not enough to score high marks.

Burk i Stevensville. Ligger väl helt rätt i normen för öltypen. En aning sötma ordentligt med fudge. Mörk!

16 oz can in Idaho.
Pours brown but so dark as to be opaque in the glass. Decent tan head.
Appealing lightly spicy and faintly smoky aroma. The flavor also has these traits, as well as hints of coffee and cocoa nibs.
Smooth, full mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

Just pour and enjoy. Make your own analysis. You won’t be disappointed that you tried Cold Smoke.

Can from MattW. Nice dark brown pour, scant beige head settled to ring. Ashy, smoky fireplace aroma. Taste is a bit more subdued, earthy hops, a bit sweet for a Scotch. Nice lasting dirty bitterness..
