Don't let its looks deceive you. Though it may resemble a porter or a stout, this is a light bodied ale with a pleasant hint of molasses. Don't be afraid of the dark.

Pint at Ernies Irish Pub in Escanada, Mi. So glad to find this at a Bud Light bar. It poured a deep opaque brown and no head was seen. This beer was all about malts. Brewers grains, chocolate malts, maple, brown sugar were all tadted and worked together nicely. This was a p,easant surprise.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some slight spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, raisin, toast, biscuit, herbal, and light coffee. Pretty nice and pleasant aromas with decent strength. Taste of roasted malt, toast, caramel, raisin, brady grains, and light chocolate. Pretty dry on the finish; with lingering notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, and toast on the finish for a short bit. Hardly any flavor presence as you drink; but the light flavors that are there are pretty balanced. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed at all after the finish. Overall this is a pretty decent black ale. There isnt much robustness in flavor; but it is very pleasant and easy to drink.

This should have much better ratings. I think some may think this is a black IPA. No, this is a schazbier. Very light in flavor, aroma and body but quite dark in the pour. An. Excellent example of the style.

12oz can. Deep brown pour with small tan foam to a little layer. Super sweet nose with vegetal DMS and big black olive. Taste is tangy, over carbonated, dry wood shavings, vegetal oddities. Powdery, mealy apple palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I definitely enjoyed this beer. Roasty notes with a bit of sweetness. A little bit of smokiness. Dark black pour with small off white head. Moderate carbonation with medium body. Slightly smokey taste with easy finish. I think i may like this beer more than most, but the price is right and the beer is pretty good for what it is,

From notes. First reviewed 12/3/2011. Served on tap in a pint glass at Lockharts BBQ. The beer is a dark brown color with a ruby tint in the edges. A small off-white film is all that exists for a head. Light roasted malts, slightly bitter with some caramel sweetness. The aroma is very light. The flavor is mellow roasted malt with some milky sweet chocolate. Metallic and a bit of citrus toward the end. Fairly flat flavor with not much hop presence at the end. This has crisp carbonation but a mild flavor, resulting in a watery sensation. The body is on the light side. I ordered this because I am a fan of American Black Ales, but this barely qualifies for the category. It tastes like a boring over-carbonated porter or something.

Can. Dark brown, light thin head. Mild roasty aroma. Not much taste and with a light finish. Palate is pretty thin.
