The beer is 5.2% alc. and offers the palate a balance of dark malt notes with a clean, short bitterness on the finish. The name, 1855, is our way of saluting the great city of Ottawa that has been so good to us.

Draft sample. Pale amber in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of bready and caramel-like malts, along with minerals. Flavors are of simplistic bready malts and a residual table sugar sweetness. Pretty bland overall. Reminds me a bit of Creemore or Barking Squirrel, but less good.

"Purchased a growler at the brewery. Poured minimal head. A nice red amber appearance. Decent lacing. Aroma of malts. Taste is also malty, with some more bitter type fruits escaping me (Cherry, grapes, maybe, but just hints of it). Spicy, but not too bitter finish. Pretty good!

Not super interesting but a good go-to in Ottawa non-craft brew pubs. Pours dark amber with some roast malt and a little hoppy bitterness. Good for pitcher session at Mugshots. Tap.

2013-05-10. Dark red brown nice head. Malty, dryish light bitterness throughout. Lingering dry malt lightly toasty. Dryish toasty malt aroma, light caramel . Fairly simple, not bad. On tap at Darcy McGees, Ottawa

Growler from the brewery. Dark brown pour, oily yet creamy tan head. Sweet dark malt in aroma. Taste - enjoyable. Light to medium body, lots of nutty sweet dark malt flavour, some bitterness in short finish - a little more bitterness than I was expecting actually (thanks!). This was certainly the most mainstream of the three beers I bought from this brewery, and that is fine - it is an appealing ale that will certainly convert a few. And I will buy it again as there is lots here to like (and session) without ever getting too complex. Glad I have a growler to enjoy (and rate from).

On tap in Ottawa. Has a small head and okay brownish body. Soft malt aroma. flavour has nutty notes with more malt and grain hints. Medium palate. A good red-style ale, though far from memorable.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2012 On tap @ Hintonburg Public House Ottawa. Pours a clear copper colour with a small off white head. Aroma was primarily ripe red berry, reminded me of smelling a nice Shiraz. Taste is a doughy malt, some nuttiness, and a coppery bitterness. Mouthfeel is relatively thin, with a long bitter finish. Not my favourite but not bad.
