Draught at Volo. Nov. 11, 2011. Pours a very deep ruby-red with a spare diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma and flavour are sugary sweet along with caramel malt, grain and some fruit. Average bodied. Too sweet for me, regardless of whether it’s on style or not.

On tap at Volo. Pours a clear rubyish brown with moderate-sized off-white head. Aroma is malty with caramel dominant. Taste is also quite malty with caramel and a little fruit. Fine carbonation. Decent.

I tried this beer on draught on November 18, 2011 at "C’est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent reddish-brown colour with a thin light tan creamy head...darker than other altbiers I’ve had. The aroma was butterscotch, grains, and caramel. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, butterscotch, and grains. Pretty one dimensional, and went down easy.

[4097-20111111] Tap. Light nail polish apple aroma. Clear, dark red body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet grainy alcohol flavour. Medium body. Fair. (6/3/5/3/12) 2.9

2011-11-11. Crisp red brown body and nice frothy off white head. Flavour is pleasant, malt forward with a bit of interesting hop bitterness as well. 6+ Mild aroma is malty, mild toasty caramel malt. Lightly hoppy. Average plus bodied palate. Pretty solid take on a style that is not necessarily my favorite. On tap at Volo, Toronto

cask days 2011. one of my favs from the fest, but i’m asucker for well made malty lagers. quite a dark pour, very dark mahogany pour, with a decent head for a cask. nice upfront malts, chewy, and bready with a decent hop bite. good carb, and mouthfeel was bang on. i found this was served a little cold, but what can ya do? great malty semi sweet finish with a good hop presence. excellent!

Tap at C’est What. Amber-brown pour with a thin white head. The aroma is fairly sweet with some light estery fruit and a bit of dark malt as well. Lightly caramelly but it’s really thrown a lot of esters. The hops are lightly bitter but there’s not a whole lot of aroma to them. Palate is well-attenuated, but the really pronounced fruit is just not really appropriate in this style. Although the malts are dry, the estery character adds a bit of slickness that I could do without.

Cask Days 2011
Aroma sweet sided, malty character with slight noble hop on sides. 6+
Appearance thick haze on brownish bottom. White mid top.
Flavor and Palate : medium bodied with thinner walls. Mineral notes followed with sweet dusty sugar hints. Lighter easy going top. Lacking strong German hop influence (bittering not aromatic).
