Bottle at the White Horse. Big thanks to Doug, Jamie and Mark for arranging, facilitating and serving. Cheers Guys! Hazy red-amber beer. Big pale tan head which tastes sweet - cream with sugary bubblegum come red fruits come sweet red beans thing going on. Reminded me a little of some of those crazy Japanese Kit Kats. The beer is semi crisp with light carbonation. Sweet tangy vibrant generic fruits with cream and mild bubblegum in the background. Tiny bit of sherbet. An enigmatic beer full of flavour but hard to pin down. Who cares? Tastes great!

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy amber color. Soil, beans, caramel, moderately sweet. I don’t see the point.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy bright red amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out the miso notes upfront, with lots of bubblegum, some herbal notes, and toasted bread. Flavour is sweeter than I expected from the nose, with toasted caramel and bready notes, maybe a little bubblegum. Not getting any of the miso notes. Pretty solid, if unremarkable beer.

Oakes (18794) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
Has a nice light brown colour, though not much head. The aroma is mostly caramelly, not overly complex. Very light body. Touch of red miso character though it is a bit understated, lends a little bit of umami. The thin palate lets me down - it could really use from more sweetness to pull the unique character across the palate.

Bottle - Caramel and some sweetness. Clear dark gold with a decent white head. Light caramel and a nice light finish. Not bad.

Scopey (15687) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 2, 2011
Bottle at the Japanese Craft beer tasting at the White Horse. It pours hazy dark amber, with red highlights, low carbonation and a foamy beige head. The nose is varnish, sweet caramel, marzipan, plum, Crème brulée, fig, salt and brown sugar. The taste is seaweed, melon, marmite, tart cherry, chocolate, peppered beef jerky, wood, ripe strawberry and a little alcohol warmth. Wow this is a very interesting brew! It is all about the umami.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’ place. Thanks Naama. Hazy amber. Malt, caramel, miso, sweetish, a bit of umami, slightly bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
