Bottle 330ml. Excellent beer. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, and a hint of alcohol. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Brown, with a frothy white head. madmitch76 (24807) - , Essex, ENGLAND - MAY 27, 2011

Bottle at the White Horse. Big thanks to Doug, Jamie and Mark for arranging, facilitating and serving. Cheers Guys! Hazy red-amber beer. Big pale tan head which tastes sweet - cream with sugary bubblegum come red fruits come sweet red beans thing going on. Reminded me a little of some of those crazy Japanese Kit Kats. The beer is semi crisp with light carbonation. Sweet tangy vibrant generic fruits with cream and mild bubblegum in the background. Tiny bit of sherbet. An enigmatic beer full of flavour but hard to pin down. Who cares? Tastes great!
It pours hazy dark amber, with red highlights, low carbonation and a foamy beige head. Smell of Caramel and plum, figs and brown suger. Dry feel, Huge range of Taste. Melon, cherry, chocolate, berries (strawberry) and a sweet dry aftertaste. Very enjoyable. There is a miso flavour in the back but its subtle. KyotoLefty (10264) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 16, 2008
Dark brown with an amber/red tint. Medium head. Aroma is a bit sweet, rich, with caramel and a bit of fruit. Good malt flavor, not too sweet, but rich, dark and slightly roasted, slightly meaty, with light miso flavors. Nice-somewhere between a dunkel and an alt. Rich but not sweet. Rather highly carbonated. the miso is incorporated nicely and really works better than I expected.

Bottle at the Japanese Craft beer tasting at the White Horse. It pours hazy dark amber, with red highlights, low carbonation and a foamy beige head. The nose is varnish, sweet caramel, marzipan, plum, Crème brulée, fig, salt and brown sugar. The taste is seaweed, melon, marmite, tart cherry, chocolate, peppered beef jerky, wood, ripe strawberry and a little alcohol warmth. Wow this is a very interesting brew! It is all about the umami.

330ml bottle. Copper resin colour with a flat layer of light brown foam. Nutty biscuit malt aroma with a similar taste. Very flavoursome and leaves a long aftertaste in the mouth. Nice. Ethereal (2421) - Los Angeles, California, USA - APR 2, 2014
Taster at the White Horse, Parsons Green, 25th May 2011. Cloudy mid brown appearance. Very soft savory nose - malty with a hint of meat. Interesting flavour - buckwheat, dried beef jerky, woody fig notes (like a Belgian dubbel). TheJollyOne (230) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - FEB 24, 2009
Im not a huge fan of miso, but I really enjoyed this beer. Dark brown but quite clear, lively body, medium head. The nose was really quiet, I couldnt get much, some caramel and a gentle roast. Taste was brown bread, plums, raisins, and a gentle roastiness. There is a certain miso/beany flavour in the back but its very subtle. Palate medium and fairly effervescent. Surprisingly very nice! Pours murky brown with a large lasting creamy head and big chunks of sediment.
Nose shows loads of rich malt. Lots of caramel, prunes, figs, caramelised apples, treacle and a big melanoidin character.
Similarly malty flavours, lots more of the above fruit and caramel, almost candy-like. Also a savoury character shows along with some soft alcohol. Finishes weakly though with a hint of cardboard.
Nice med-high carbonation suits the beer well. KansaiBeerLvrs (5153) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 6, 2013
Bottle from a random liquor shop in town for 470yen bought in honor of my upcoming trip to Nagoya. It pours a rich dark brown with a foamy beige head that’s slow to dissipate & leaves behind excellent lacing. A chocolatey aroma with some salty miso notes wafts from the glass. The first sips gives me a chewy & meaty mouthfeel. A smooth chocolate start segways into salty dark miso goodness. I had this beer for the first time years ago & it seems better than I remember. Nice. Maybe not the most complex beer but interesting & something that is truly Japanese. More for those who enjoy malty over hoppy beers though it isn’t all that sweet.
