UPDATED: SEP 8, 2006 This is an overlooked lager. Maybe the bottles I’ve enjoyed are fresher, but I totally disagree with the other comments. This was crisp and no bad aftertaste. KapitiCritique (379) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - DEC 5, 2011
A bottle at the Cheese Factory in KC. They have a number of Boulevard beers on menu as well. Pours a beautiful deep straw colour, head dissipates quickly, not much lacing, persistent carbonation - this is the sort of beer you drink in a tall flute glass, slightly yeasty fruity nose- distinctive pears; very dry, a tad bitter, does not have the salty CO2 of many US pale lagers; quick finish, good sparking carbonation. Good example of the type. This bottle brewed in Japan. I was in Japan when it came out, the can pictured here is a garish example. It was well received by the expat community. The scores here reflect a snooty beer-bongers snootiness. This is an excellent example of the style. The fact that I only drink a bottle of this every few years is irrelevant. Review: Can of Kirin Ichiban Pale Lager, 5%ABV
Kirin Ichiban, my first time having a Japanese beer, was impressive on its first showing. In general it was pretty nice and quite drinkable
On pouring, the appearance was of a pale yellow colour with a very big creamy head that lingers for some time, and leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. Had a nice look to it.
Aroma: A pleasant sweet smell of a light grain and malt aroma.
A nice light beer to drink and went down easy enough. The taste had some initial sweetness followed by a very enjoyable bitter aftertaste of hops, kind of creamy. Tastes of hay, wheat, and light floral hops. A good clean, crisp beer, smooth, I liked it. Recommended for someone who is looking for a nice light beer to relax with Teran (327) - Belgrade, SERBIA - MAR 24, 2016
Better than most of EU lager beers. Nice body, nice look, very good taste and aroma, even palate is not so bad as at most of lager beers. Enjoyable beer, it is very fine with the food, because is somehow neutral but tasty. Fulkrum78 (175) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 19, 2002
It’s a good beer to drink with a burger or pizza. Real light but goes down well.

Malty, very German (Axis exchange of brewing technology?) Not bad at all, but would be best with food; I tried it by itself. The 24-oz can is cool. beaconstreet (811) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 3, 2006
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2006 Special premium reserve indeed! Such that its in convenience stores urbanlly everywhere! Hoppy tasting for commercial widespread lager. Nice finish. (Note: much better in the bottle.) Valfar (78) - San Miguel, EL SALVADOR - NOV 5, 2013
A crispy, delicious and fine Japanese beer. It has a malty aroma, like cereal and hay. Also, a good body, good blond color, fuzzy and good foam. It tastes really good, sweeter than bitter. Good job Japan. Alex60 (283) - - APR 10, 2016

Een zachte toegankelijke pils. Doet denken aan een zachtere versie van Warsteiner. Erg goed in balans voor een pils.
