Pours dark brown...with a bit of red and a huge mocha head. Aroma is milk chocolate, nuts, and a bit of strawberry. Flavor is a chalky chocolate and coffee...a little bit of fruit juice sweetness and some bitter paper taste. Mouthfeel is a bit watery. zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 13, 2007

330 ml bottle. Pitch black body with a foamy head. Light smoked aroma with some fruit. Flavor is light burnt, some coffee, some chocolate and a bit of nuts. The alcohol is not to distinctive but gives the body a bit watery impression. Some hint of acid in the relatively short aftertaste. Not a bad beer at all, but somehow a bit inharmonious. A near black, mahogany, opaqe brew with a foamy mocha head and nice lacing.Thick malts, soy sauce, molasses, sweet-tarts, mineral salts, there’s a lot going on here. A warming middle with roastyness towards the finish. Nice feel. A tasty stout, not one-dimensional like Asahi’s stout offering. Probably the best beer made by one of the big macro brewers. Yes, folks, the label calls this stuff the "epitome of beers". I was expecting a Guinness clone, but my first hint otherwise was the motor oil-dark pour and thick, tan head. Coffee aroma, good...unfortunately, it all sort of unravels in the flavor. Medium bodied; some cherries, coffee, and minimal caramel-chocolate make it interesting. However, a bitter, lactic note that lasted well into the finish killed it for me. I’ll probably try another bottle, just in case.

Pitch black color, with dark fruit, dark chocolate and liquorice in the nose. Medium bodied with heavy chocolately mouth and dark fruit and a linger dark chocolately finish with moderate bitterness.

Oishii desu (this is delicious)! Kirin’s most flavorsome brand has a potent aroma of licorice and dark fruit and a taste to match. Further characterized by sweet and rummy flavors, this sticky, full bodied, chewy brew finishes with lots of alcoholic flavors and a very warming feel. The brewery’s best and possibly the entire country’s as well.
