Can from Shibuya Tokyo Stay hotel vending machine. Notes of fruit, rice liquor, pale malts and wheat. A bit harsh but finishes clean and inoffensive. biirusaikou (2705) - - SEP 8, 2016
Draught at Club Quattro. Didn’t realize they actually dare kegging that crap... I usually don’t mind Kirin but that one is a pretty gross and cloying sweet happoshu. Even if you drink it fresh and quick, you’ll likely need a true beer afterwards to wash out the naughty aftertaste. Avoid! visionthing (5532) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 10, 2016
50cl can from a vending machine at Sakura Terrace, Kyoto. Pours the regular pale golden with a white head. Mild grainy aroma with some fruity and grassy notes, hints of vegetables and herbs. Moderate sweet, not much flavour, but a light bitterness in the end. Rather watery and bland, but still fairly drinkable. markoijelena (3147) - Belgrade / Amsterdam, SERBIA - AUG 15, 2015

At the 8th tasting (round 1), held at Vlada’s Beerville pub in Belgrade-Serbia. Mini can courtesy of KansaiBeer Lvrs, thank you. Pours filtered golden color, little white foam. Nose: corn, paper. Mouth: awful. sour-cornish, blah. yenbeer (188) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 27, 2015
The gold standard for happoshu, and the reason I can still respect something not a full beer. Smell and taste are functional beer, alcohol is slightly more, and the palate is light enough for chugging while still having enough body to satisfy. There’s a reason this one has stuck around for ages. samparkique4 (111) - - SEP 26, 2014

Pretty terrible. Clear amber, no head, no aroma. Tastes oddly musty with absolutely nothing else. Will not be having this again. GoufCustom (2173) - HONG KONG - JUL 31, 2014
500 ml can bought at 7-Eleven in Metropolis Plaza, Sheung Shui.
Light golden yellow colour; Less than one-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Very small lacing and notable small carbonation; Slightly pungent smell of light malt, with light apple juice, sugar, corn, very faint wet cardboard, soggy bread, light lemon and thin grass; Very light sweet taste of very light malt, with light rice, soda water, faint soggy bread, faint lemon and shades of bitter grassy hops; Light body, watery palate; Taste profile is a very thin, but still tastable malt base. Mostly soda-like background with pretty light rice. No off-taste, empty but certainly inoffenisive… Hoppiness is very light lemon and faint grass in nose and taste. Bitterness is background notes for a vaguely malty non-finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: Thought this one will be just as poor as the Tanrei Green Label, turns out this original Tanrei has a really slim but testable malts, very low sweetness, plain, empty but foul-free aroma and taste. Maybe that’s what Tanrei is all about - a mild beauty, if only Happoshu is your thing. Definitely drinkable, but still a lowly one.
