COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Pours clear amber with a one finger beige head. The nose is malty caramel malt with some faint hops. The taste is caramel, light toffee and a mellow hop finish that cleans up the sweetness. Medium mouthfeel. Nothing spectacular, but not a bad beer.

12 oz. bottle. Poured a amber color, medium sized white head. Aroma was toasted malts, malty caramel. Flavor is largely the same, malty, caramel. This one was decent, though relatively plain.

Bottled from Costco. Deep copper red body with a long lasting off white head. The nose is nutty with walnuts and some sweet caramel. There is also some leather. The taste has lots of walnuts along with a little bit of toffee. There is also some musty leather with a salty finish. This is a decent amber.

Bottle:   Copper hued amber, fairly dark, moderate off-white head, spotty lacing.   Malty nose, slight breadiness.   Much the same on the tongue.   Decent malt backbone, but without a little bit more of a hop bitterness its a little lopsided.   Comes across as a bit mealy as well.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Needs more sweetness with the existing malts, plus a little bit more of a citrus hop aspect, and then you’d have something.   Not bad, but just not memorable enough.   Pretty much what I expected for this one.

Bottle: amber with medium off-white head and nose bisquit, malt and floral hops. Flavor is malt with light roasted grain, bisquit, and light citrus hoppiness. Palate is full creamy malt, mildly sweet with a punch of hop bitterness at the end. Overall, I liked it but a little too much hops and bitter for my amber tastes.

355ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger of white head that leaves a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and grass. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with some grassy hop bitterness. The best of the Kirkland series that I have tried, but not by much. Nothing special and not recommended.

Got this in a giant costco multipack. Pours looking like watered down coke, minimal head. Smells of butter, caramel and a bit of metal. Tastes of caramel, malt and a touch of hops. Was a little bit sweeter than I was expecting but in a good way. All in all not bad considering the price. Better than some other mass produced beers that are more expensive.

Bottle from the local Costco. Pours a clear darker amber color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is malt-dominant, with some toasty caramel in there. Taste is toasty and slightly bitter, which surprised me, and almost no residual sweetness.

From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Malty nose. Nutty flavor. Clean finish.
