This classic handcrafted ale, brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo has a complex character and is very hoppy in both flavor and aroma. By using barley malt, Munich malt and crystal malt, this IPA is a delicious medium bodied beer bursting with flavor. A true India Pale Ale. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

12 ounce bottle from Costco. Pours a ruby color with a medium white head. A sweet malty fruity nose. The flavor is light fruity hops, metal, nutty, cherries. Odd for an ipa. Not hoppy. An amber ale more so. Ok.

12oz bottle. Pours amber with a white head. Citrus, caramel, light pine, on the sweeter side. It was better than I thought it would be. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tea, cooked vegetables, and cereal grain nose, sawdust also present with perhaps some honey. Clear deep amber, thick head. Mild dried leaves, a little cardboard, stale malt. Not much in the way of hops. Meh.

Bottle from the local Costco. Pours a crystal clear reddish amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is quite grassy for me, with little else in terms of complexity for this beer. Taste is moderately bitter, but tastes old, like its been sitting in a warehouse too long (imagine that?!?). Meh.

Aroma is quite nice...caramel malts, some citrus hops and reisin. Flavour is too malty and sweet for my taste, nowhere near enough hops or bitterness. Again, ok for the price.

Cloudy amber with an off-white head that retained well and left moderate lace. Mild earthy hop aromas up fron followed by some bright citrus notes and biscuity malts. Earthy hop bitterness with moderate biscuit and bread sweetness, balance toward the bitteness. Medium body, high carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a dry finish. A rather bland IPA.

12oz. Darker brown-orange, minor head. sour orange fruit and caramel aroma, very malt driven. Some sweet sticky hop flavor, a bit of sour-bitter finish, but very sour metallic base all the way through. Not very good

Best by: Oct 23, 2011 A: Pours a amber ale with brilliant clarity. Two fingers of peanut head falls over a few moments to a sheet of the same. S: Hmmm, malt. Sweet malts. Not really getting any hops on the nose here. Lemme try again...Nope, malt and butterscotch. Fail. T: So, still really malty. WTF. Damn nearly an amber. The bottle says 67 IBU, I cant believe it. There just must be sooo much residual sugar that the beer tastes like sweet wheat and barley malts. Man, this is the first Ive had of the 24 pack my wife convinced me to buy, and Im not really looking forward to the rest. Okay, a few minutes in and theres a hint of bitterness on the back end. M: Medium body with moderate to low carb. Dry finish. O: see above. Not impressive. Not an IPA. Serving type: bottle 06-27-2011

Bottle. Pours copper penny in color with a pure white rapidly fading head. Piney aroma, really fresh. Spicy hops with a bit of citrus on the tongue. Nice malt balance.
