COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Amber German Lager, with a toasty malt character, and a low to medium hop character. This style of beer was called Marzen for the month in which they were brewed. When brewing resumed again in the fall, the remaining stocks of Marzen were brought out for Octoberfest. By this means, a single style of beer came to be known by the two names of Marzen and Octoberfest.

Flight pour on tap at the brewery (Kirkwood, MO). Pours a nice glowing orange hue hue, faint haze with a loose frothy offwhite ring. Mellow lacing overall. Aromas are a bit biscuity, gentle caramel and faint sweetness, mellow earth and spice but a bit bland overall. Initial is lighter end of the fold with some vienna malt, caramel and gentle biscuit. Bready malts, decent yeastiness with some mellow spice. Middle is a touch sweet, caramel and biscuits meet some touches of earth, mellow kiss of harvest grain, faint dark fruit. Finish is a touch spicy, toasty and carmelized with mellow yeastiness. Ok. Nose seems a bit mellow.

Sampled T Heritage Fest. Clear and copper. An off white ring. A gentle but nice aroma that includes spices, sweet malts, and fruit. The flavor is more lively with hops out front. Noble with nice fruit. A good hop choice and level. Spices are more gentle and the fruit is passion. A nice beer with the hops out front.

seymour (2091) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - APR 18, 2012
Sampled on tap at the brewpub. It poured a deep amber color with weak white head but lots of Belgian lace. Aromas of mild malt, bread, caramel, fruitcake. Rich malty flavor, toasty, perhaps some kettle-caramelization, nice subtle hops balance. Medium body and carbonation, excellent full, creamy mouthfeel with lingering sweetness. A true-to-style, well-crafted Oktoberfest/Märzen.
