Draft... RBSG 2014… Pours clear and amber with a small, creamy, white head that never completely vanishes. The nose is loaded with spicy, peppery grain mingled with big notes of grapefruit and pine. Full-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is spicy and medium to heavily bitter, flanked by a resiny, spicy, bone-dry finish. jtclockwork (16857) - , New Jersey, USA - JUN 24, 2014
Draft. Pours yellow with white head. Nose/taste of rye, grain and light fruit. Lighter medium body. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 23, 2014
Flight pour on tap at the brewery (Kirkwood, MO). Pours a glowing golden amber hue, just a kiss of haze, nearly transparent with frothy offwhite head layer with nice stick around and lacing. Aromas are a bit citric, florals and grapefruit, touches of orange and faint grassiness. More citric fruits, a touch of bready and gentle sweeter malts, faint rye spiciness and orange hops. Nice nose, fresh and hoppy. Initial is a touch sweet, lighter end of medium bodied. Some gentle rye, citrus hops and faint melon. Touches of florals, reeled in bitterness as it’s a touch sweet into the middle. Backend is dry, more earthy/floral hits here with a gentle sweet body. The nose here Is more potent, hoppy with some vibrant citrusy and fruit life. The beer itself falls a bit flat. deyholla (11909) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 22, 2014

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2015 04/18/2012: Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Poured a golden color with chill haze, everlasting white foam, and LOTS of lace. Nice residual protein, great retention. Aromas of freshly toasted whole-grain bread, grapefruit, some fruity ale yeast esters. Lots more citrusy hops in the flavor too, but matched by an equally substantial pale malt sweetness with that cool, crisp rye bite. Hints of pepper, caramel, and nutty tannins. Soft, bready, full mouthfeel. Very balanced and drinkable APA with a twist. Now we’re talking, Kirkwood Station, brew more of this kind of creative stuff... Delicious.
UPDATE 08/20/2015: I ordered this again, twice actually, and liked it even better this time. This brewery is especially fantastic at smoky dark styles, but they REALLY nail this hoppy rye stuff too. Crisp and grainy. Dank resin, black pepper spice, massive grapefruit bittersweetness. So tasty. Wakerider44 (14) - Richmond Heights, Missouri, USA - APR 10, 2012
Crisp hop finish. Rye is not overpowering. Light to medium amber color.
