Can. Kyoto, Japan. Pours pale amber yellow and opaque as hefeweizen with a medium white foam residing. Scent is an interesting and seemingly unique complexion of saison or maybe even berry fruit notes. Taste is a strange complexion with half lager properties and half saison but dry and a bit like tonic. Surprisingly strange beer. Very good.

GoufCustom (1815) - HONG KONG - JUN 29, 2016

330 ml bottle with pull-tap bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Translucent straw golden colour with a crust of yeast sediments; One finger head and crumpety white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing and active carbonation; Pungent and sweet aroma of malt, with strong caramel, dark fruits, pears, light mustiness, chemical, strong floral, sugar, bread, yeast, lemon and fair grass; Medium sweet taste of Ale malt, with grains, light honey, light dark fruits, yellow fruits, floral, molasses, bread, strong yeast, lemon, medium bitter hops and grass; Close to medium body. Slick and creamy palate; Mouth feel is good Ale maltyness in a pretty thick and smooth background, with good clean lager-ish character to the tongue. Notable good touch of dark and yellow fruit esters, strong floral and just right sweetness. Bready with quite lemony to round. Pretty nice!... Hoppiness is strong floral, lemon and fair grass in nose, and stronger in taste; Bitterness is pretty strong for a lasting, mid to high astringent sweet malty finish; Fairly dry after taste; Sweet fruity and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is a pretty faithfully-brewed Koelsch, with good head and body, strong Ale maltyness, clean lager-ish taste, nice fruity esters and strong hoppy end. Just the chemy aroma from the yeast is the real minus, otherwise it stand tall with the real German ones. Nice!

399 yen from Suvaco. 5% nice clear gold color, thin effervescent white head. Classic kolsch look. Sweet bready malt aroma, minor grain notes and a hint of hops. Nice full bodied mouthfeel, a bit earthy flavor, slightly rough but a crisp light bitter finish. A pretty good kolsch which is perfect for this summer heat. Give it a shot this summer folks.

Can from lawson as Kizakura kyoto pale ale for 320 yen. Golden color fine white head persisrent and lacing. Light haze. Aroma is uncertain ale a bit sour vaguely fruity, it would not be surprising if they used sake yeast. Light body creamy texture light bitter carbonated extra dry finish.

My Bottom Line:
A faultless Kölsch with a creamy mouthfeel, timid cereal flavors and crispy herbal hop bitterness will undoubtedly make a quenching pint, but this one recalls macro professionalism (and economy) from sip to sip.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the deep blond.
-Light fruitiness recalls honeyed apples.
-Carbonation is lively and lifts the subtle flavor profile.

On tap at the brewery restaurant.

On tap at the brewpub. Fruity, with rather rich malt and a decent hop bitterness. Finish is dry, body and flavor rather light. Easy-drinking and enjoyable but not really exciting.

Clear golden color with a mid size white head. Aroma is strong of sweet grains and some light herbs. Very sweet flavor. Grainy, light hops, and some earth herbs. Pretty thin. Finish reminds me of corn flakes. Not bad, but not worth a second go.
