Gangstergafje (1142) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - JUL 17, 2017
17-07-2017; bottle; at home (bought online at www.drankgigant.nl, Oost-Souburg, The Netherlands).
The looks of the beer are nice. It looks like a proper stout. The beer is almost pitch black on the naked eye. Strong light reveals a brownish tone, but not much. It is one of the darker stouts. It is to dark to check clarity. On top of the beer a thick layer of rough brownish foam is formed. Foam retention is average. After some time only a thin drape is left. Not bad.
The smell of the beer is quite nice. It is nice, but not the best stout smell. I’ve had a lot better. I smell some malty aromas, with some chocolate and coffee and some red fruits. Chocolate and coffee give nice bittersweet aromas. This blends nicely with the red fruits. There is a nice hoppy aroma to, giving just some bitterness. The beer misses some delicacy in the smell. It’s a bit rough.
The taste of the beer is not great. It lacks balance and delicacy. There are some sweet chocolate malts, with a astringent bitternes. A bit burnt, bitter off balance hops, mwah. The bitterness of the beer is to strong, it is astringent and out of balance. I don’t mind a bitter beer, but it should be balanced at all times. I expected a bit more of this.
The palate is average. Medium full body, a bit sticky texture and medium low carbonation. The finish is not great. Out of balanced and with some liquorice and unbalanced bitterness. I expected more. It isn’t bad, but not as good as most stouts. Bosskie (885) - NETHERLANDS - APR 1, 2017
.Transparent but extremely dark, very weak head, almost flat.
Smell is chocolate and coffee, some resin, liquorice, spices; cardamom, cumin, nice bitterness.
Taste is watery bitter with some ash. Coffee and leather. Maybe a hint of smoke. Dry lasting finish, balancing sweetness against astringency. Lore (2747) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUL 31, 2016
deep dark brown colour, medium sized dense brown head, aroma of dark chocolate, herbal notes, ash, minimal coffee and liqueur; taste of roasted bitterness, syrupy sweetness, some herbal liqueur, maybe smoke, as well; not among the best imperial stouts, but still quite enjoyable FatPhil (16102) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUN 25, 2016

Pleasantly roasty aroma, quite dry, but also saying a pleasant spirity aspect too. Taste similar, but even roastier. Some alcohol hit, some ashy burntness. Kinda decent, but a bit too heavy.
Bottle (from hetbiermoment). Pours black with brownish head. Aroma is chocolate, raspberries, malt, alcohol. Flavor is sweet and bitter, some sourness, dark chocolate, roast, black currant. Finish is roast bitter. Overall: ok.

Pour black with practically no head. Just some bubbles. Aroma is soy sauce, roasted, dark chocolate, rye bread. Flavour is roasted, coffee, tobacco, heavy sweet and medium to heavy bitter. Flat carbonation. Bosbouw (2925) - Gemonde, NETHERLANDS - JAN 13, 2016
Mooie zwarte kleur met een goede bruine kraag. Ruikt zoetig, vanille, likeur, koffie. Smaakt koffie, vanille, alcohol. Markth (149) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - JAN 3, 2016
Mooi gelaagd qua smaak, donker zoals het hoort. Niet te veel koffiesmaak. Geproefd bij winterbier Adam.

Light fruity, cherrylike aroma, when putting in your nose a bit deeper there is much more. Nuts, toffee, coffee, chocolate, oak,... Its deep black with a big foamy brown head. Very typical but nice RIS flavours. Deep malty, coffee, cherries, chocolate, a bit alcoholic, wood and dry. Nice! Stuu666 (13435) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 12, 2015
