Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Licht rokerig. Zoet gaat over in bitter. Medium body, medium co2. Palet is niet veel bijzonders.

Bottle... Poured deep, brown with a thin forming, khaki head. Tannic aroma with dark, vinous fruit, and oak. Ashy mouthfeel. Slightly drying and not too heavy. Hint of cocoa with strong flavors of charred malts, wood, pencil shavings, dark cherries, red wine, and a mild oaky tangy character. Easy drinking and not any detectable heat for the high abv.

Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown, almost ebony, fizzy tan head. CO2 and sticky sweet dark brown sugar notes on the nose. Fizzy light body, not much there. Licorice and sugars on the mid palate. Long sticky finish.

Lectvay (191) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 2, 2014
Bottle from Rare Beer Club. Looks like cola with a generous tan head. Nose is licorice and floral yeastiness. Tastes sweet and spicy, rich and thick, delicious, anise is there but tasteful. Very nice!

DocJitsu (1928) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - APR 1, 2014
Pours a very dark, cola brown with a large, long-retaining, sudsy, tan head. Chocolate, coffee, and seltzer nose. A pretty flat, lifeless mouthfeel. A lot of the same notes in the aromas are noted in the flavors; just in more vibrancy. Plus, prune and raisin come through boldly. Some cherry tartness is noted on the edges of the tongue.

jmm635 (1004) - Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 18, 2014
Poured a clear, medium brown color with almost no head. Overall, too sweet in my opinion. Aroma of rich caramel malt, molasses, and raisins. Flavor was quite sweet without my bitterness for balance. Drinks pretty smooth for 10% abv and hides it well.
