Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Awesome quad, very complex, very dark reddish color, thin off-white head, flavors included candi sugar, sweet maltiness, warming effect from the alcohol level, slight hint of dark chocolate, malty and roasty finish

Tap @ Gastropub Tuulensuu.
Pours dark brown color with a large head. Aroma is very spicy and malty with caramel sweetness, dried fruits, also some chocolaty notes, bready. Creamy smooth chocolaty and bready flavor with subtle spice notes, dried fruits, some earthy tones and very faint wooden tones. Pleasant, alcohol deceptively well hidden.

Belmont Party Supply / Dayton OH --- Aroma of malt and sweet yeast. Nearly opaque brown / black color, deep tan head that stays at 1", lace cobwebs. Taste is rich malt that grows more caramel-y as it moves through a medium carbonated swallow, then dark chocolate on the way to a finish that has only a hint of hops. Big and malty, but not heavy in the belly. The alcohol is not strong. A really memorable full-bodied Belgian Strong. I’d buy it again.

Donker (bijna zwart) met fijne schuimkraag. Beetje zurig aroma (herfstbladeren). Smaken van toffee, mokka, licht zurig. Licht zoetige afdronk. Niet de beste van Het Nest maar meer dan behoorlijk.

Bottle. Dark brown with small beige head. Spicy and licorice aroma. Sweet ripe fruits flavour.

MelvinKalksma (1720) - NETHERLANDS - JUL 16, 2016

Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit and liquorice.

Turbid/opaque ruby/dark brown beer with heavy yeast and with a slight/medium beige head.

Medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit and liquorice.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma is rather weak however and the palate could have been better. The flavour is great despite all this!

330ml bottle from a holidaying friend. Pours clear dark chestnut brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of stewed fruit, prunes, tobacco. Taste is roasty, light chocolate and more prunes. Medium body, fruity sweet finish.

Bottle 33cl. Poured into a chalice. Deep ruby brown, small foamy tan head, mostly diminishing, lacing; aroma sweet malts, roasted, anise, licorice, dark fruits, brown sugar, light chocolate; taste light heavy sweet, slightly bitter, roasted malts, chocolate, sugary, spicy notes; in the middle part roasted malts and light fruitiness, spicy accents (cinnamon, anise, black pepper), alcohol joins towards the sweetbitter roasty finish, chocolate and coffee notes; full to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; heavy duty beer but well-balanced and complex.

Just a little too sweet but nice and warming. Flavors of overripe prunes and raisins. Maybe mid july isn’t the best time of year to drink this, but again they have shown they know how to brew. Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis.
