Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Icedwarf (1804) - Etten-Leur, NETHERLANDS - JUN 28, 2015

McWorta (1633) - LUXEMBOURG - JUN 24, 2015
Dark brown clear colour with a yellow ginger head. Aromas of sour wine notes and metal notes as well as some maltyness arise. Light carbonation, watery texture and a medium body offer flavours of wine, spices and some wood. Finish is medium and gives herbal impressions.

330mL bottle from International Beer Collector Thick looking near-black body, holds a dense tan head. Quite a rich, caramelised aroma; roast nuts, treacle, sultana, vinous black fruits, prunes, savoury spice. Dense body, shows its strength, creamy, velvety texture, rather nice on the palate. More of that deep rich caramelised character on the body - date, prune, sultana, dark toffee, nutty, biscuity malts, earthy spice. Warming, inviting finish. Really good, lovely texture, good flavour & balance.

Deep, dark black colour with billowing frothy tan head that slowly dissipates, leaving nice lacing. Strong maltiness in the aroma, with a hint of coffee and dark chocolate. Some astringency in the smell too. The taste has milk chocolate, coffee, molasses, candi sugar, dates and some lightly tart cherries. Medium bodied, a bit overly carbonated and the high acidity doesn’t really work with the warming booze. Showed some promise but ultimately a bit disappointing.

Carbonazione esagerata. Una birra poco gradevole...

Bottle. Black oily pour. Aroma of licorice and anise. Taste is really sweet, with caramelised malt, licorice, anise, red fruit and yeast. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Nice, but too sweet.

Hamirubi (595) - Waarschoot, BELGIUM - MAR 8, 2015
33cl bottle. The brewer states: Black and Fierce. And so it is. A strong coffee beer of high alcohol percentage, with great taste. Bitterness and sugary sweetness combined in a perfect caramel, chocolate ale.
