COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Der Stammwürzegehalt liegt bei unserem Kloster Machern Dunkel bei 12,4% und der Alkoholgehalt bei 5,4%. Es wird, nach alten Klosterrezepturen, ausschließlich mit dunklem Malz eingebraut, leicht gehopft und untergärig vergoren. Dadurch erhält es seine malzaromatischen und vollmundigen Geschmack.
Our dark beer has an original extract of 12.4% and contains 5.4% alcohol by volume. It is brewed entirely from dark malt with little hops using bottom fermenting yeast according to an old, monastery recipe. The result is a delicious beer with a full-bodied, malty taste.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2011 500 ML flip-top bottle in Germany. Dark carmel color with light brown head. Aroma is is malty with hints of smoke. Taste is like most Dunkels, full body with a spectrum of flavors ending slightly bitter.

Tap. Toffee malt, sour milk malt and hay hops aroma. Cloudy orange-brown color with small head. Sweet orange-caramel malt and moderately bitter fresh hay/grass hops flavor. Excellent - a dunkel that is fruity and hoppy.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for this 0,5l bottle. Best before 20.01.2015. Malty-smooth beginning. Fresh, easy to drink. A malty, slightly roasted and nice liquorice-dry aroma appears in the mainpart, but stays quite low below the quite dry malty body. The aftertaste is long, nice dry malty. Full-bodied, nice and round. Hints of nuts, dry caramel, not much sweetness. Great and refreshing Dunkel!

Das Dunkle der Klosterbrauerei Machern an der Mosel ist dunkelbraun, etwas rötlich, leicht trüb mit einem schönen sahnigen Schaum. Es riecht frisch, (röst)malzig, leicht brotig und karamellig. Der Geschmack ist leicht süß, karamellig mit Aromen von Milchschokolade und Sahnebonbons, was wunderbar zur weichen Textur passt. Dabei ordentlich süffig. Gutes Bier!

Very nice offering. I like it because I have never tasted anything like it. For starters, the initial rich bitter dark chocolate, and hints of cereal and alcohol, appearance is dark brown red hue, nice color. Taste is of bitter dark chocolate, bready, malty, toffee, roasting grain, a tiny bit of hops, wheat at the end with a wheat, malt, toffee palate left over, but nice. Overall, very nice, has a unique character. Try on if youre ever in the SW area of Germany.

The last of my reviews on out of date beers from this brewery. All 3 of their beers (including this one) are 5.2%. Brown flip-top half litre bottle should have been drank before 20th Aug 2007, it was drunk today, 12th Sept 2007. Poured into my old half litre Schultheiss glass from Berlin. Great ruby red colour, the huge head of biege bubbles was so large I couldn’t get all the beer into my glass. The beer was not cloudy by any means but it wasn’t crystal clear either. The aroma was of half burnt chocolate malts and yeast. It tastes like an Dusseldorfer Alt more than a lager to me, the label gives no hint. I like it, whatever the true style is. The burntness in the aroma isn’t in the taste, dry caramel without the sweetness is what I pick up. The mouthfeel is good, the beer and mouth goes dry, then more dry as you make your body wait for the next mouthful. A very nice beer, this little brewery will be getting another visit from me.

Bottle. Heavy malty smell, dark chocolate. Very large rocky light brown foamy head, normal long lasting; dark red body. Moderate bitter start, light bitter and sweet finish. The duration is medium. Medium body, dry and creamy texture with a soft carbonation. A very nice Dunkles.
