Brewery tap. A black colored beer, with a thick dark beige foamed head. The aroma of dark malts, caramel and hops. The taste of dark fruits, like prunes, a little bit chocolate malts, with a nice hopbitter. A nice smooth after bitter. When the temperature of the beer is rising, the chocolate taste is stronger. henrikb (1263) - Aarhus, DENMARK - SEP 1, 2008

On tap at The Klosterbrau Brewpub, Bamberg. Black brown with tan head. Quite tarry on the nose, the body is fairly sweet and fruity with notes of plum and prunes. There is a slight sourness in the background but nothing too extreme. It’s ok. MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 27, 2008

Very dark cloudy brown with a thin off white head. Grainy aroma, slightly sour with some spice and toffee. Lemony sourness in the flavour, tangy malt. Ok but not amazing.
From tap sitting in front of Klosterbräu. Dark brown with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt with hints of coffee. The flavour has a rather good body, but not nearly as much as many others (Vielanker Schwartz for one). It has notes of caramel, roasted coffee and not nearly as much coffee as the aroma suggested. It develops dry towards the slightly bitter finish.
