minutemat (6062) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 7, 2014
500ml bottle @ the 3rd Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Jon. Pours a coca-cola black with a fading carbonation. It’s a month or two out of date so that probably explains it. Sweet toffee on the nose with a little in the taste and some additional malts but in general its Schwarzbier flavours seem a bit lacklustre. Need to try a fresh bottle really.

Dark, dark brown with a ruby highlight. Rich chocolate aroma with a touch of caramel. Taste falls nothing short of a sweet, chocolate bliss. Slight roast, very, very slight. Serves to dry out and balance the sweet malts. A wonderful Schwarzbier.

On tap at the brewery - served in a krug. Near black, with a lasting off-white head. Malty aroma with licorice, toffee and caramel and a hint of dusty grain. Sweetish licorice malty flavour with herbal hops and a decent bitter finish
