Poured a nice fluffy foamy head into German lager glass. Head remained, leaving ample lacing on the glass. A deep, dark coffee brown, almost no light gets throughthis one. A hearty malty smell followed by some nice roast grain flavor, with no bite or bitterness on the tongue. Zehr lecker! Grzesiek79 (4297) - Radom, POLAND - JUN 24, 2012

Almost black, can still somewhat see through it. At least you can see hints of light. Decent sized tannish head. Little lacing as it slowly drops. Roasted malt and coffee. Hints of chocolate. Flavor is a smooth roasted character. Nice. culchiem (3978) - Berlin, GERMANY - JAN 15, 2012

Draft at Klosterbrau Bamberg: Eclipsed chestnut. Creamy and persistent light-beige head. Intriguing, potently earthy nose of rustic dark malts, cheese curd, shoe polish, yogurty yeast, rum, leather and black plum. Firm carbonation. Deeply earthy and mineralic with a stiff punch of coffee grounds and a metallic twinge of roast, yet ever so delicate with a gradual development of malty depth and palate-caressing softness. Predominantly dry malt features a tasty light nuttiness and treacle toffee. Chocolate cake lusciousness beautifully adorns the staunch foundation of appetizing minerals. Ends with a mineral and dry chocolate blend with shades of cocoa swirled with lingering rustic, yogurty yeastiness. A rare example where rustic idiosyncrasies are so adeptly juggled with a thoroughly fulfilling malty fullness. An intriguing, highly characterful Schwarzbier. Draft at the brewpub. Very roasty aroma and drinks almost with a bit of charcoal, which sounds worse than it is. If you’re in the mood for a toasty one, this is smooth and quite drinkable. (#4386, 12/2/2011) KnutAlbert (6754) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 22, 2011
