On tap at brewery. Almost black color with huge white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt, chocolate. Taste, starts sweet with milk chocolate, continues wit caramel and milk coffee and ends up with strong coffee bitter finish. Nice.

courtesy of fiulijn - pours a clear dark ruby-brown beer with a moderate foam left; aroma of toffees with hints of biscuit; medium-bodied and pretty sweet; slightly dry aftertaste of toffees - quite modest and more a dunkel than a schwarzbier fiulijn (21022) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 26, 2011

Very dark mahogany color, almost black. Both the aroma and flavor present caramel and chocolate, that seems to be heavily oxidised; there is some sweetness in the front, while it’s dier in the end, with also a bit of roasted malts. Unexciting.

Dark mahogany color; generous head. Nice delicate aroma of roasted malt. Malty flavor, sweetish, with a round mouthfeel, and a good chocolate and coffee component, delicate; the bitterness is quite low, although in the end the coffeish touch is more evident. Very good Schwarz.
Laffer Malzantrunk, der sich auch später nicht verbessert. Etwas herb, trocken, später röstiger aber weiterhin mild. Langweilig. 5/6/5/6/7/5

A very dark and roasty porter-like beer with a frothy head. I didn’t find another like it in Bamburg, although didn’t try all the brewers’ offerings by any means. Clear as far as I could tell and only lightly carbonated.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 Vom Fass at Klosterbräu Bamberg. It is a tasty, somewhat refreshing Schwartzbier with a decent dark malt kick. EdKing (2640) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2011
I’m pretty new to Schwarzla’s (black beers) so was intrigued to taste this. Colour was very dark brown, almost black, taste is very similar to a porter with roasted malt giving it a chocolatey flavour. Nice hoppy finish. Weight and body is thinner than a porter, and a touch thinner than I like. But a nice beer. ogivlado (7948) - Zagreb, CROATIA - JAN 20, 2011
swing top bottle 500ml. -Three weeks out of BBE. Dark amber coloured, small tan head that stays for a while, caramellish nose. Slight roasted malt, caramel and subdued coffee but quite thin and watery. Bitter and a bit metallic finish. So so schwarzbier, overated. rosenbergh (11753) - Tampere, FINLAND - JAN 14, 2011

Clear yet still opaque dark brown, nearly black body with garnet highlights, topped by medium, semi-stable tan head.Aroma is rich Munich-like malt, aromatic sweetness and dark chocolate from roasted malt. Clear malty flavor with some metallic oxidation, coffee and dark chocolate from roasted malt. The chocolaty sensation lasts into the finish while aftertaste is roast and hoppy bitterness. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation and smooth, creamy texture.
No burnt notes and clean lager character with complete absence of fruity esters.
