UPDATED: DEC 25, 2011 Rated at Klosterbrau Nov 2011. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/burnt grain, bitter chocolate), with notes of molasses, minerals, milk, black tea. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Odd collection of aromas, but ultimately enjoyable. Decent balance. goozen (4048) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - JUL 14, 2007

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear brown colour with a mid-sized head. Not as black as expected from a Schwarzbier. Malty with hints of caramel and strongly roasted dark malts, hints of coffee and chocolate. Well-balanced Dunkel. BelgiskOlklub (1079) - Viby J, DENMARK - NOV 24, 2009

(Rating #3843)

Almost black, can still somewhat see through it. At least you can see hints of light. Decent sized tannish head. Little lacing as it slowly drops. Roasted malt and coffee. Hints of chocolate. Flavor is a smooth roasted character. Nice. inbirraveritas (1563) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 2, 2012
Nearly non-transparent black/ruby body, beige head.
Smell of molasses and black bread.
Heavy malty aroma ruled by molasses, black bread and dough underpainted by mild roasted malt and grassy hops.
Usually Schwarzbier charactered, somewhat thin mouthfeel.
Mild roasty, sweetbitter finish.
Tasty, easy drinkable brew . SVD (1955) - NETHERLANDS - AUG 18, 2013

Poured vom fass, 500ml, at the brewpub. Fading beige head to a deep black coloured body with rustic highlights. Nicely roasted malts on the nose. Dark caramel taste joined by coffee, roasted. Dark malty finish. Well bodied, but easy to drink. Likable (Bamberg 10.10.2014). djoeye (4605) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JUL 31, 2015
Look; huge beige foamcrown, dark clear copper-red body. Aroma; dark caramels, dark fruits, dusty raisins, dusty chocolate, grassy modest hops behind. Taste; dark fruits, brown caramels, dark malts, prunes, plum peel, grassy hops - leading to an about soft finish with dark malts and some prunes and grass. Normal texture and soft carbonation. Tasty beer, I just thought it would be black. [50cl brown swingtop-bottle 5.2%abv BB11-11-2015 [email protected]
