In a market thats become saturated with IPAs, its not easy to brew one that gets your attention. Despite the odds, Knee Deep is repeatedly doing just that. Theyve taken things into really weird territory with Hop-De-Ranged, a so-called Quad IPA. Coppery gold color - about what youd expect to get when IPA gold-orange is mixed with Quad brown. Nose has both lots of malt yet lots of resinous, citrusy hops. Flavor goes that way, too. Its bizarre. Caramel, candy sugar, and bread collide with tropical and tea-like hops. It shouldnt work, but it does. It manages to capture both Quad and IPA character respectively, though the hops definitely take the upper hand. I had no idea the ABV was 13.1%. Its hidden cleverly.

Bottle/Fest. A- Pine, caramel, bready. A- Yellow color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Pine, bitter, citrus, cleaner. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Definitely more IPA than Quad, no doubt. Was hoping for some more brown sugar, candied fruit, etc. notes but mostly just got a lot of bitterness.

Its bright orange and clear with a normal white head. Smells like hop resin. Possibly the most bitter beer Ive ever tasted. I think its so bitter you can barely taste the fruity notes from the hops. The finish is mineral and the bitterness lingers for days. Drinking this beer just makes me shake my head. You could probably grow man tits after one pint. Thank God I only had a snifter.

22oz bomber pours with a near clear gold body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up mango, cantaloupe, thin spicy hops, booze, and little else. The taste delivers mango, cantaloupe, ripe clementine and tangelo as well as orange flavored gummy bears. Wow. For such a huge beer this maintains a pleasing level of finesse. Nice. The massive abv is pretty well hidden.

Ive never met the Jerry posted on the bottle, I assume hes tasted something almost as bitter as this; but this... is a Leviathan. Excellent in every sense of the word. I fell madly in love with it as soon as it passed my throat. I really enjoyed its hops as well as its malts. Ausguschnet.

10oz draft pour at Lost Dog - Alexandria. Poured a clear, golden copper color with a small white head. Aroma was lots of pine resin notes, sweet caramel notes. Light candi. Flavor was caramel malts, juicy, hoppy. Alcohol is very well hidden.

These are always hard for me to rate. I appreciate going for it, but these styles are difficult to assess. Its big and fairly boozy and bitter and resiny. Not bad, but tough to drink more than a taste.

A light haze. A mellow amber colour. Not much head. Hops are basic, indistinct, with a slight melon character. Sweet and a bit boozy, with orangey sweet character. The alcohol is actually masked quite a bit by the hop, which has a fairly sweet overlay.
