bomber. Deep copper ale w/ pine resin nose. Malty but plenty of citrus. Slight metallic linger.
I hesitated ordering this so early in the evening because, at 9%, there might be regrets later in the evening. I also hesitated ordering a second for the same reasons. But with a DIPA as good as Hoptologist, you just have to escort caution out the door and drink like you're twenty years younger.
Tarry pine is most pronounced on the nose, reminiscent of wreaths or snowy stands of evergreens; however, grapefruit and some toffee are also present.
With the first sip, you notice more pine from all of the hops, and this lingers just long enough for a crisp, bitter finish. With a second and third sip, you notice browned butter too, as well as a chewy mouthfeel. You have to search for the citrus, but it's there, on the fourth and fifth sips.
And as for the twelfth plus sips, regrets be damned!

bomber pour in myrtle beah condo. super piney flavors and aroma. super hoppy but balanced off with the malt. this is jujst tasty on a hot day. really good. bigcat03 (324) - Columbus, Nebraska, USA - JUN 15, 2017
Bottle in a tulip glass. Pours golden with a thick white head. Aroma is floral, lemon, grapefruit, and a tiny bit of malt. Initial taste is pine resin, floral hops, lemon, and a bit of booze. Bitter but not overpowering. Aftertaste lingers and is resiny but not unpleasantly bitter. Body is medium and carbonation is lively. When I see DIPA I always worry it will be a bitter bomb. This has character without absolutely obliterating you with hops. geologyguy (1604) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - JUN 11, 2017
Great floral hops smell, very bold floral hops taste...smooth and not too bitter! Good complexity and a bitter sweetness on finish...some light pepperyness obguthr (6369) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JUN 3, 2017

Light amber; slightly cloudy; light carbonation. Crisp fresh aroma. Very balanced and crisp for being 102 IBU and 9% alcohol! Fresh, crisp, and balanced.

pours golden with white fluffy head. the aroma is grapefruit, citrus, some straw, and hay. slightly alittle grassy/earthy. The flavor is grapefruit, earthy, grassy, pungent resin, and pine throughout not much in regards to malt flavor other than slightly abit of caramel. body is medium hides the 9 percent well, but really no depth in flavor. bitterness has a bite more a the end. overall decent but does not really set it self apart from the world of DIPA’s today. From a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours gold with head and lace. Aroma of grapefruit rind, grains, citrus zest, straw hops. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of grains, pale malt, straw hops, grapefruit rind, minerals, bitter herbs. Overall big, bold, a bit bitter but tasty for a bitter hop lover. madchemist83 (272) - USA - APR 13, 2017
Bottle from 7/31/15.
Aroma of belgian yeast with fruity alcohol scent. Pours amber and cloudy with dense white head that stays. Subtle hop bitterness blends with malt backbone. Not bad. jinroh (1604) - ESTONIA - APR 5, 2017
Pours amber with a sparse foam head. Aroma actually more malty than I thought, still some hop resins and slight skunk going around too. Fresh and herbal. Taste is also herbal and intensely resiny. Good stuff actually but for me the balance was better for some of their lighter IPA’s. Still a great beer and enjoying it a lot, nice hop fix!
