The aroma is very malty with rye as well as grassy and pine hops. The appearance is dark gold with a smallish head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall this is good with the alcohol well hidden.

Nice and sharp with a strong grainy taste. It’s flavor is quite different with a nice bite yet very drinkable. Hops are not too outstanding. The bite is coming from the malt and the rye

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a orange tint and a thinnish off-white head, about only a centimetre tall. Aroma of alcohol, yeast, coriander seed, curacao and a bit of rye - not much though. Medium-bodied; Assertive yeast and a good amount of coriander seed and lemon and orange rinds. Aftertaste is fairly mild with the yeast and malt coming through but not much of anything else. A touch of sugars at the end with a hint of bitterness. Overall, an acceptable beer - but nothing sublime and with a few good tastes, nice, but not as complex as I was expecting. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Super Jr Market (BestDamnBeer Shop) in San Diego, California on 06-May-2012 for US$6.49 sampled at home in Washington on 05-July-2012.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a gloomy golden almost brass color with a small creation of head which eventually dies out forming an O-ring. The aroma has a grassy aroma of hops and a sweet balance of rye or sourdough bread and reminds me a lot of how an abbey tripel smells. The flavor comes across as spicy with a minor taste of rye and a grassy plant like finish, but other than that, this saison lacks substance and taste as though it is heavily watered down.

Not much to this one...straw colored pour with a fluffy ivory head. Yeasty nose with mild pepper, lemongrass, and earthiness. Slightly hoppy with a smidge of citrus. Meh.

Bomber from Total Wine, Greenville, SC. If ever a name was an object lesson in how to avoid snarky ratings, this would be a top contender. But in fairness, it actually is emphatically a saison in terms of its majority characteristics. So no stylistic crisis, but just not an especially good beer. Light copper pour, moderately carbonated, and an unassuming nose of grain, generic yeast, and phenols. Slightly watery mouthfeel does little for the flavors, which come across like buttery popcorn, mild spice, and a bunch of fruits. Meh.

22oz bottle. Rating #10. Clear medium golden pour with a nice white head. Sweet apple aroma, very malty with a little rye spice. Light flavor, smooth eith a nice little rye spice, it’s still a little too light for me. (1971)
